1377 making me insane...everything inconsistent

For some reason my 1377 has become extremely accurate (quarter-sized groups at 50") with only 5 pumps with Crosman pointeds, hollowpoints and Daisy wadcutters. At 10, 15 or 20 pumps, the groups look more like shotgun patterns even though you would think that the higher pressure would force the skirts tighter against the rifling.

Too, even at the lower power levels, there is a much higher DRT factor (dead right there) with the pests than with the higher power levels where there is a more frequent occurance of the dog finishing the issue.

I don't get it

Try better pellets... RWS, JSB, Beeman...

the crosmans you mention are cheap pellets and inconsistent themselves. I use RWS superdomes almost exclusively. No problems.

Check for loose...

screws in the breech and loose barrel in the barrel band. If it has never shot good then check the barrel crown for burrs and the lead in for burrs at the t-port area. Good pellets do make a difference although my bet is the cheap stuff will do better than what you are getting. Put the gun on a rest and make sure not to yank on the trigger also.

I used to have a life. But now I have the forum. I am a sick man?

Found it

It wasn't so much anything being loose, It was grip on the forestock being too tight. The pistol does have modded internals and a carbine stock (home made from a crutch) and I discovered that if I keep both hands on the pistol grip, the groups have tightened up considerably...nickle-sized with a few fliers
