Ben

What did you think of the L96 A1 compared to the Parker hale. The L96 was the accuracy international but now part of the AW series.

Gyrene

You ever get to fire some sniper rifles? I managed to fire off a mag on the Haskins 300. I called it the 'trigger on a barrel' rifle because thats all it is. Very powerful rifle, good accuracy & takes both 7.62 & 8.58 rounds. Don't really know why it never entered full time service with US forces.

I've fired an M-14 modified into a sniper rifle, but outside of the military. Other than that I haven't fired any sniper rifles.

No idea about the model 300, maybe it boiled down to money?

Pax,

I never fired the M-72 LAW, but the AT-4 was its replacement. Its pretty much the same thing, a pre-packaged one shot anti-tank weapon. The AT-4 just has a little more range.

The American Marine Division has the highest combat effectiveness in the American armed forces. It seems not enough for our four divisions to surround and annihilate its two regiments.

"What did you think of the L96 A1 compared to the Parker hale."

parker-hale is by far the best snipe rifle in the world and is leaps and bounds ahead of the L96. although both carry very simialr characteristics. my weapon of choice was always parker-hale and let me tell why my ole fruit.
why parker-hale better

1. lighter
2. better range although guide will say differently
3. L96 bipod is actually a customised parker hale bipod.
4. Sling swivel
5. Bipod can be romoved much faster

would you agree?

Pickaxe handle is a very fair weapon in peace time.

You know, when a drunk civilan tahitian face you, shouting you are a f$cking french invader, and he will break your legs, you hardly shoot him with a 9mm parabelum. But with a pickaxe handle...no admistrative papers, no military court. You just have to say : he was drunk, he missed a step in stairways...

Most tahitian are very nice people, but some independantists are very agressiv (especialy when they are drunk).

Tahitian are maori, like this man :

...and I'm just a small and fit european

PA Mac50 9Mm handgun.
PM 9Mm Automatic-rifle? (pistolet-mitrailleur).
FSA 49/56 7.62Mm.
AA52 7.62Mm Machinegun.
"Harmonised" DEFA 533 30Mm from Mirage3-E.
Mauser WW2 rifle from unknown type i think 7.62Mm
while visiting a friend who had a nice collection of
(illegal)WW2 weapons and amos courtesy of some French Gendarmes friends of his. I couldn't hit a road sign with it at 200Fts the recoil of this thing was awsome!. I actualy never missed a "kneeling rifleman" target type at 50 meters with the PA Mac50.
It was quiet a nice little handgun and if it didnt
allow for a sustained/fast rate of fire as more modern handgun would, it was still quiet potent. I've never been that good with the FSA and didnt fire the AA52 often enough to comment on it.

"So how long have you been serving now???"

9 months. the standard term for conscription is 9 months but mine was
extended to 12. actually my "Spiess" (i think the equivalent to the
kissem/topkick) wants me to become an officer of our regiment. i think i
will apply for officer of the reserve.
btw a great concept, which i dont think other countries have. but thats
for a another thread to discuss.
I am a "obergefreiter" (private first class / lance corporal) right now.
if i decide to apply for officer of the reserve i will become an ensign
soon.
some of the stuff i shot (g22, mg43, mp5, mp2) was in two days when a small
group of us took the regiments arsenal out to a large shooting range in
fόssen at the austrian border. except me and three other crew grades, there
where only seargents and officers. we were allowed to go with them as a
eward for constant effort, comradeship and performance.
but my real weapon is the 20 mm gun, in war i would shoot the 20 mm which
is our most deadly weapon, hehe. trucks, jeeps, buildings, infantrists,
apc΄s are the helpless prey of our wiesel 20 mm predators. hehe, i love
the sound. once you have a shot a couple of 20 mm rounds you will get
adicted 100 percent. tuck... tuck... tuck (got the target)...
terererererererereretuck (target not existing anymore) hehehehe

@Paljoey

What were your opinions on the AK-47 & SKS?

The American Marine Division has the highest combat effectiveness in the American armed forces. It seems not enough for our four divisions to surround and annihilate its two regiments.

They both were easy to operate, and seemed fairly reliable, given the fact that you could tell they were cheaply made. The AK47 you could tell it was an " assembly line weapon ",as there was really no attention to detail compared to the M16,which looks like a Mercedes when compared to the ' Yugo-like ' AK.I actually found it hard to adjust to the AK,at first because of its lower muzzle velocity, those 7.62s felt like they were being " rolled " out of the barrel, felt weird, which kinda made it loop to the right and up,when fired.Very difficult to adjust to when you're used to the M16 being very precise and at a higher velocity.I also thought the barrel overheated pretty fast on the AK and the gas clyinder was exposed and you could tell it could bend easily which could cause it to malfunction in no time, but it was still pretty reliable as we kept picking it up and slamming into the ground(lol)and it would fire, with no problems. An M16 would be in pieces! The SKS was cheaply made as well and I'll tell you something I didn't know before hand, the SKS had no selector switch! I always thought it was an automatic rifle, but its a semiautomatic!..lol.That being said if you're going to ' spray and pray ' I could see how you would want them in a close-in under 100 yrds. fight.Give me the M16 at range,no doubt.

The following are the Danish names - dont ask me about the original ones, I only fired them, had no intention to marry them

Guns:
7,62mm M/49 (machine pistol)
7,62mm M/75 (rifle bought used from the Bundeswehr, probably the G3 you talk about)
9mm M/49 (pistol, SIG P210)
12,7mm HMG

ATMs:
M/72
AT-4

Artillery (haubitzes):
105mm drawn
155mm self-propelled M109/A2

Firing an entire battery at a time does give a certain rush

Tried akm and akms, the completly original ak-47, and the Dragunov SVD, was very close to testing the an-94, but it wasnt my lucky day. The weapons that i used were the Saiga 12k, that was usually what i was given most of the time. The rest of the time i had either a VSK-94 or the aks-74U.

@Yiorgos

It was on Lesvos... and it was definitely a buzz. Our division organised a familiarisation/training exercise for machine gunners/AA gunners, and they had transport aircraft dragging drones for the ZU-23.

Most of our AA gunners hit the target (I would have been worried if they didn't). For the machine gunners it was more to get a basic familiarisation with it - I recall only one of our guys hitting the target.
