VATANI, did you first attend college or did you go straight from high school to the Army? If one had his "Lisans," what rank would he bear? Ostovar?

My Basic training in the Australian Army reserves went for 7 weeks. Trained allong with full timers from start to finish.

Fun times ....yeah...

Seeing as im in the reserves follow up infantry training of two, two week courses gets you qualified as an infantrymen. SO its like another month all up after the seven weeks of basic.

Remember this is only for reserves, the second bit of training.

Were did you do your training Vatani?

I see. Thanks for the info. That made me upset. That's not even an officer ranking, is it? Is there any guarantee they will keep you after your two years of conscription are done? What are the chances that they will promote you to, say, Sotvan?

issa, ostavar dovom is cosider afsari in iranian army, promotion becomes purely political at some point through your service...now adays most people who go into artesh are purely to get hired and stay as proffesional soldiers...the conscripts in artesh are less but there are now more conscripts in sepah...

My training for my service in the greek AF included 4 weeks of basic training and 4 weeks specialty training (I was an AirForce MP). Basic training I found very boring and meaningless after the first week, MP-training was much better and more demanding.

No worries.

I have heard that for Greeks out of Greece, like me born and raised in Australia for example, the service is getting cut from six months service to three months next year.

Is that true?, if so could i do my service in the Air Force?

I have been an Australian soldier for three years, would'nt mind a change, ie do Air Force instead of Army.

Im in the Canadian Army Reserves.

My basic training was 3 and a half weeks, followed by a more advanced form of basic called Soldier Qualification which was another 3 and a half weeks (This all used to be taught in one 7 week course, but they split it up for some reason) followed by another 5 weeks for my trade course (Armoured Reconnaissance)

So in total, 12 weeks training to qualify as an armoured recce reservist.

Yup, the Navy really has some long training times. As much as they are lucky to be on a nice warm ship, as opposed to a rainy mud hole, they certainly make up for it with the amount of training they go through.

@ SpartanSoldier

I have heard something similar too. It must be in the new law, currently to be voted in the Parliament, but it isn't signed yet.

AFAIK, you can apply for joining the AF, but I doubt whether it will be approved, especially since you will only serve for a very limited time. If you are really interested in it, you can ask at the consulate or have someone ask here at the Stratologiko Grafeio for a definite answer.

Thanks for the info, i suppose if it changes to 3 months instead of six to do the AF you probably have to serve longer.

See what happens i will find out soon when i go over the next year.

AFAIK, all conscripts serve the same time, regardless of belonging in the Army,Navy or AF.
One used to serve +2 months in the AF and +4 in the Navy compared to the Army, but this doesn't apply any more. All conscripts serve 12 months now, AFAIK. There has been talks about reducing the number for the Army to 11 months, but nothing definite yet.

But the above isn't definite, if you really want to serve in Greece, only the military authorities can give you a definite answer.

Hey, Yoad. It has been awhile. Welcome back.

my whole training took a 1 year and 8 months, at the end of it I recieved the unit's pin.
it included 4 months of basic training with another 2 months of unit's basic training, all in all 6 months of boot camp. alot of nevigating, recon cours, a more advanced recon course, commanders course that was included for all the members of the teams as part of the training, and more nevigating in between- most of them nevigating with weight.

yoad, do men and women have special "relations" in the IDF? is it frowned upon? does it happen undercover? or are there stiff penalties?

If you are of similar ranks, then you can ride eachother till hell breaks loose. I knew female officers with male seargents or less, but thats less common. When you are in basic training there is a 40 cm law that you cant get closer than this. No one really gives a damn about this law, especially since in many divisions Men and Women undergo basic training together.

"I have heard that for Greeks out of Greece, like me born and raised in Australia for example, the service is getting cut from six months service to three months next year.

Is that true?, if so could i do my service in the Air Force?

I have been an Australian soldier for three years, would'nt mind a change, ie do Air Force instead of Army."

tssss... Very difficult to get in AF without connections or long term service. As for the lenth of time you will serve, it has changed so much that as sjmygian said only the authorities can give you a 60% accurate answer. Probably for all now it is 12 months. They go by... and then you miss it after you cursed it

PS. gia sou re sjmygian! yiati se lene xazo-xoriati edo re; 8es na tous sxisoume;;

As for training, the standard stuff - plota, anorthodokso/nukterino polemo, b'klimakia, lemonou, skopies/peripolous, askiseis, pyrofulaki, Parmenion, voles kai poreies. kai vevea tis standard aggareies (at least when I was there. My cousin who is now serving sais that things are super-loufa. No moral, no discipline, everythin on thier balls...).

I went through 19 weeks total for basic training and school for MP. All was done at one time! I found it to be really challenging and fun. It taught me alot.
