A suggestion

I have this idea. In many threads there are ALWAYS disputes about statistics... like how many of each kind of tank, aircraft, ship, etc... any given armed forces has.

So I was thinking, what if all the mods, and whoever else wanted to work with us on the project, developed our own Global Military Forum database of "Global Armed Forces statistics and force levels." up to date, and accurate.

We could draw our information from Global Security, FAS, Strategy Page, our own general knowledge, and whatever other sources we could find.

It would provide the forum a good general background index of info to be used in debate and discussion.

If we did a professional job, it would improve the overall quality of the site and we would draw and retain more members. For example... people doing searches on google for certain statistics may stumble on the forum.

It would be a fun project, and something we could all be proud of.

What I have in mind is a breakdown by service.

We would have one database for Navies, one for armies, one for, airforces, and one for marines.

the type of info we would provide would be

a short overall history and description of the service...funding/budget... a breakdown of the type of equipment and how much of each.... number of personell...number and name of engagments the service has been involved in... and the likely force structure of the service in 10 years etc...

Do you see what Im getting at? I know it would be a lot of work, but if we divied it up amongst ourselves, and didnt rush it, and gave ourselves plenty of time... like a couple months... it would be TOTALLY worth it.

I would bet that we would get more members.

Anyway, tell me what you think!

anglophile you said in the moderators forum that the price is 189 bucks and you wanted to abandon the idea for that reason. I may be willing to consider it so don't give up too fast on the idea.

really mike? That would be awfully decent of you old chap . But by no means feel pressured into it. Its totally up to you, That database would make it easier... but we could definitely do without it. Its up to you.

Tell me when you decide .

well I appreciate it. I am considering something else right now that potentially may be huge and blow the doors off any other promotion so give me a few weeks and see if this exciting risk works out. I have a guy who lives locally that I have worked with that is an expert at various technological feats and webhosting and he has some great things in mind.

look for some changes soon.

to be continued.
