I guess the term dogmen (and women) has evolved. I would say a true dogman takes exceptional care of their dogs. Now I have known people that fought dogs that said they were dogmen and seemed to take exceptional care of their dogs. Conditioning ect. But to me that all changed the minute they put their dog into the box. Sure maybe they only fought till they called a truce and not to the death. That doesnt matter. They did an injustice to their animal. An animal that served them and would never let them down. Even if that meant dying. An animal driven by its instinct. Call it entertainment? I think not.
I have read many books about APBT. The book written by John Colby gives a good insight on the dogmen of old. Maybe back then is was an acceptble sport. But times have changed. They may be the founders of the breed but we are taking that over. We have created new sport for our companions. Sports that honor their loyalty, drive, and fearlessness.Without another drop of blood being shed for a humans entertainment! Our dogs are so much more than that to us true dedicated dog people.
