At first I was also thinking that the movie we saw may not have been the original timeline. Whatever the original timeline is, it would HAVE to include at least one blackout. Since the blackouts were the method he used to time travel, a timeline without blackouts would mean that he would be unable to travel back in time to create a "second" timeline.
