      He didn't really inherit the blackouts as much as he inherited a way to go back to the past using the blackouts since his father could do this as well. What I don't understand is what TRIGGERED them. Even if he inherited the blackouts there must be something triggering them. It's not just a random blackout I don't think because of so many of them happening at traumatic moments but what about the others. The only explanation I can come up with is that his blackouts are caused by his going back to that point in the future, BUT he needs the blackout in order to go back so something else has to trigger that. Time is cyclic in this instance I think and that explains why he did what he did while he was blacked out (such as drawing the picture) His future self was controlling his young self during these times.
