There are 2 legal avenues to determine whether it private or corporate:-

1) When you are the recipient of a T/T coming from that particular account,
2) When you have access to Barclays' Bank internal screen.

The latter is applicable ONLY when you are an employee of Barclays'.

Cheers...

Well done RL this is a clear breach of privacy and in the UK is a clear breach of the Data Protection Act, The publishing of private account details is a criminal offence and this matter should be reported to Barclays. I ask the moderator to make such a report, or it is my intention to bring this post to the attention of Barclays. This could lead to identity theft. More important, most of the posters on this board have been posting numerous Nigerians scams.

What is the one piece of information the require, the IBAN and account number

Now thanks to an anonymous poster they have one

To all concerned.

This matter has now been reported to Barclays Bank, confirmation of same can get received by contacting internethelp@barclays.com

The matter posts is a breach of the Data Protection Act of the United Kingdom and the publishing of official records without the knowledge and consent of the owner is further punishable under this act.

Any party who contributes further to this discussion may now be deemed as guilty by association with the initial poster.

The posting of this type of information is clearly dealt with under section 5 of the guidelines to this forum. Removal should not be an option at this stage. In stead the post should remain with an addendum from the moderator as to the dangers of posting such confidential information and the problems which could ensue coupled with giving assistance on such delicate matters.

Public information such as branch location etc and the verification of IBAN is not protected, that however is the case for the actual number, meaning it is not allowed when the actual beneficiary has not given the number out, since I have no crystal ball I would conclude that if someone has an account number he got it from the actual beneficiary of the account, if thats the case its his business to whom he releases. I'm actually surprised someone posted it in a forum, anyway no non-public information was released; which anyway may mean that the bank may close the account.....

That is where you and UK law differ. It was pretty evident from the initial posters information that he was seeking information. If he had been given those coordinates from the owner of the account, why would he be on a public forum seeking confirmation of the information to hand. The Data protection clearly protects the publication of such data, it is probably an act you do not have in the US which offers such protection.

The replies are full of discrepencies.

Southwark is a district in London LE is the post code for a town called Leicester, a long way removed from London.

In the original post there is no Barclays branch located in the address as supplied by the poster.

It has scam written all over it.
