I thought the movie was very ignorant in the way they thought of our culture. It is sad to know that this plot line of one culture being better than another is something that has gone on for a long time and will continue to go on for generations. I have to say that I also found the movie funny because of how people were saying how the mountain people were so poor and how if they could save them they would be so much happier or at least that is how it appeared to me.
It made me laugh because the people of the mountains were happy of how they lived I remember my father telling me stories of his childhood and how his face would light up. These people were poor yes but they never really considered themselves unhappy or depressed about it some of them loved the life they had.
My cousins and I all joke my dad and his syblings, because one of them once said (during their stories of walking 7 miles to school uphill both ways in the snow)"WE WERE POOR, BUT WE WERE HAPPY"
I totally understand where you are coming from!
My husband and I both grew up in large families and poor at that. We can honestly say that we felt as though we had more love than many of our friends who had things a lot better.
