I found the internet sites helpful in defining "Old time" music. One thing that really caught me attention is when mike was talking about music today, and he stated "I'm gradually learning to abandon short labels and take a minute to describe the place and time that this music existed in and now exists in, because musical consciousness is so layered and limited by contemporary format radio and TV that most Americans' view of music is pretty narrow." I guess i never really thought of it that way.

I agree, Megan. Mike Seeger's pages are really helpful. They place each artist in context as well as the styles they represent. Context is so important!

Glad you found them helpful!
