I was reading this article about the educational status in Appalichia, and I found the major point of that educational funding in the region must increase for the area to move forward in the economy.

Ah, but what would that look like?

It is an often repeated idea (presented mostly by those who have been highly educated) that education is the solution to our problems. As an educator, I, of course, agree. What is so bizarrely contradictory is that we have more higher education institutions in WV (given our population) than many other states. So it leaves me with questions like what are we training our students to become? More importantly, are those careers sustainable/attainable in WV? What are our values in higher education?

I guess my question for you is what would a successful educational investment look like? What can we do differently? better?
