Local officials want to tear down the jailhouse where 24 coal miners from southern WV were held in 1922 on charges of treason. For more information about the miners and the charges they were facing, or to learn more about the efforts to save the jailhouse go to:

Interesting. I think it is amazing how many monumental things happen in West Virginia, yet they are overlooked. Think about it...the raid on John Brown, the catalyst for the Civil War happened in Harper's Ferry (even though it was then Virginia), unionization really began here, these treason trials...and god knows what else...
