After the conversations of last meeting regarding themes for Telford et al.
As it was agreed that the 2004 theme remain as Starfighters i have been considering the 2005-6 theme ideas discussed.
I would like to propose that rather than a single type display we produce a constant scale display with a timeline to it. For example (and my personal choice) FIGHTERS. This would be display of Fighter aircraft (to start with single seat) from say 1914 to 2004, all to 1/48th scale and all aranged it date of first flight order. This would make for a very complete display right from the off. Obviously we should have to avoid duplications as much as possible but i am sure that we could start with a very complete display.
Seriously, we looked at this in the planning that eventually led up to the 'Aces' display, and it was shortlisted then.
It has certain disadvantages :
1. It's aircraft again. I don't mind (obviously!), but it does leave our target modellers out in the cold!
2. If you do it 'ruthlessly' your left with only 8 WW2 fighters, and the need to find 15 between the wars fighters! 1914-1922 is easy, as is 1934 - 1974. The other periods can be quite hard going.
OTOH, it does promise to be an impressive display, and at least a third of the potential line-up must already be sitting on members' shelves.
I'll try to find the original notes I made by Monday's meeting.
