We’ve been practicing our disco moves all month in preparation for this Saturday, when Pinup Nights will take place on a Saturday night for the first time ever! Working all day on Friday then going straight to The Q Club to organise Pinups was becoming crazy, so hopefully switching to a Saturday will calm things down!
For our first spot of Saturday Night Fever we’re pleased to welcome 3 excellent local bands to Pinups, namely - The Science (sort of post-punk, but their singer struggles to define it, so what chance do we have?), Miss the Occupier (reminiscent of Daydream Nation era Sonic Youth) and The Echo Session (quality songs in a 60’s style). Trying to decide a running order for these 3 contenders was a nightmare, so we’ve asked them to sort it out amongst themselves!
Once the bands are finished we’ll be making space for dancing to the likes of:
The Clash - The Specials - Ordinary Boys - Bob Marley - The Libertines - Beck - REM - Blondie - Blur - Kaiser Chiefs - Jimmy Cliff - The Smiths - Kinks - Suede - Belle & Sebastian - The Killers - SFA - Idlewild - The Jam - Chemical Bros. - The Bees - New Order - Orange Juice - The Strokes - Stevie Wonder - Kasabian - Magazine - David Bowie - Madness - Roxy Music - The Concretes - The Pixies - Razorlight - Stellarstarr* - Ian Brown…PLUS a touch of northern soul stompers, 2 tone and Jamaican rocksteady to keep things interesting!! (And, as ever, if your band has a demo and would like us to play it between the bands, bring it along).
Saturday is also a special night for Franz Ferdinand, playing the 2nd of their 2 shows at the Barrowlands. How big will this band get? We’ve raved about the mighty FF ever since we first played them at Pinups in September 2003, and we’ll be delighted to offer reduced entry for anybody carrying a Franz ticket. Basically, if you’re into music (new, old or both!) there’s no better place to be this Saturday.
We should also mention that as of tonight we’ll be DJing in the Brunswick Cellars (on Sauchiehall Street) every Tuesday evening from 8.30pm until midnight, providing straightforward top tunes for the rowdy Tuesday-night drinker.
Hope to see you on Saturday, any requests, fire away!
