To celebrate their return to the either airwaves, the Subcity crew will be taking over The Arches for their own fat version of a block
party.
In the last few years Subcity has rapidly established itself as a major player in the city’s hip hop scene. The first Block Party, held at the Arches last October, sold out at 1200 capacity by just after midnight. So what does the second instalment hold?
According to Station manager Shaun Murphy; “Last year’s event was very hiphop focused. This year it is more like the original block parties in the Bronx. There will of course be break dancing, graffiti artists and live hip-hop, but the night will be a mash up of house, funk, drum and bass and two–step as well, not forgetting a slice of grime on the side.”
The Dance Arch will be being rocking to the sounds of DJ Azerty: dirty beats from a dirty girl in a beret, talking on the mic with her sexy French accent.
The Ill Technique aka DJ Windmill & DJ Orbitz (Basement Breaks), two of Glasgow’s best upcoming turntablist’s, cement the auld alliance with some serious scratching and some breaks for the dancefloor. Joining forces with The Ill technique is two times UK DMC finalist DJ Itchy who is joined by MC duo Surface Empire for a session of live Scottish hip-hop.
Andy Piacentini (DiscoNotDisco) will then be firing up the dance floor with a set leftfield disco and eighties boogie.
Subcity legends Boom Monk Ben and Full Phat will be bringing the night to a roaring climax with their trademark four decks - two mixers shenanigans. These two reprobates will be mashing up anthems, theme tunes and hip-hop beats for your pleasure.
In the Playroom, sublime Edinburgh outfit Soulgrove will be showcasing their unique flavor of; “the finest jazz soup, flavored with a heaped tablespoon of funk and a dash of hip hop”.
The erstwhile Nu Inbred Generation will then be doing their utmost to blow The Arches soundsystem with their goliath-sized basslines and filthy rhymes. DJ Nobulator & MC Penatrator are the only people playing grime and
UK two step in Glasgow City, MC Penatrator warns dizzy rascal who plays the carling academy on the same night “Dizzy you betta watch yo back, your along way from home
and my basslines will be shakin the academy stage from 2 miles away”
Headlining the Playroom will be 3 members of the edinb:bc, headed up by MC Sonny with DJs Beast & Be:lie:ve providing the basslines. Initially a purely drum n bass project, the
collective has since branched out to embrace hip hop and breaks and generally “quality underground bass heavy music.”
Visuals will be provided by the Flying Jalapeños Break dancing crew, a graffiti showcase by infamous Glasgow artist Rogue One, and Brand X VJs.

you people suck, i cannot beleive you are comparing this event to "an original bronx block party". this is glasgow, the only thing you will find is sad white boy pot heads that smoke soap bar all day in their shitty, stink infested hell holes. also some guy from paisley who desperately wants to be trent reznor. and fails. spectacularly. you are all dead inside.

this is for Glasgow universities student radio, i had a great night here last night you should have came along to see for yourself! was a very good crowd

one dizzee rascal and his crew all turned up so i know at least the reputation of our station is getting better and better!

the night was very close to a sell out, so surely if it was all the soap smoking people your stereotyping, they wouldnt be coming out to do anything?

open your eyes and ears, once you've done that open your front door head out into the world and get yourself a life!
