G42 Social Centre:
a resource centre, meeting space and social space for anarchist, autonomist, independent and anti-capitalist individuals and groups in order to strengthen solidarity and support as well as a resource for supporting people within the local community to fight all forms of domination, hierarchy and oppression.
The G42 Collective was formed in September 2004 after the experience of running a Social Centre in Glasgow city centre during the summer.
We are a collective of about ten people who aim to establish a permanent Social Centre in Glasgow run on the principles of voluntary mutual aid, solidarity and by decision making without hierarchy.
The collective is called G42 because that’s the postcode in the south side of Glasgow where several of us live and work. We feel that the Social Centre should be based in a community so it can be used to strengthen community solidarity as well as a political activist resource centre.
We feel the best strategy to set up a permanent centre is to initially rent a space for a year to develop our experience as a collective before raising money to buy a permanent centre. Meeting weekly since September, we have managed to identify a suitable space available for rent and now need to raise the money to pay for it.
We plan to have the centre ready before the G8 Summit in July so it can be used for anti-G8 activity.
