One of Britain's greatest undiscovered songwriters, Wreckless Eric is playing The Kintyre Suite in The Central Hotel (Glasgow Central Station) on Friday June 3rd.
Part of the Stiff Records roster in 1977 alongside The Damned,Ian Dury and Elvis Costello, Eric has been writing and recording material of near-genius ever since. He has, almost as a matter of course, been ignored by the mainstream. Nevertheless his songs have been covered by The Monkees,Yo La Tengo and wierdly,Cliff Richard!
His recent solo gigs are intense and hilarious affairs, detailing Eric's view of the world and his struggles with near-fame,alcohol and depression, and the "music business". You'll be laughing out loud one minute and uncomfortable in the face of such honesty the next. Usually in the space of one song.
The gig is promoted by The Glasgow Rhythm & Blues Society. If Eric doesn't appear to be much to do with Blues to you we offer this quote from a review of his South By Southwest performance in The American Statesman.
"As funny and bitter a show as you can imagine - the blues by other means" (Matt Rourke)
