I'm over here for uni and I play a kind of Bright Eyes/Belle and Sebastian singer songwriter type thing and I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice on who I would get in touch with over getting any gigs or whatever over here. I don't have a demo at the moment (simply cause I can't actually afford to record one) and I'm just wondering if there are any venues/promoters that are willing to take a chance on someone who is new to Glasgow. Because I had been giging back in Belfast for years getting gigs was never a problem because I knew alot of people who ran gigs and the like, but here I can't seem to get on the ladder. I've played alot of open mic's but most of them seem to be full of people who can barely play and crowds who aren't really interested in listening. So any contact details for venues/promoters that run new band nights or just the details for any half decent open mic nights would be much appriciated.

Cheers, Rory

Nice n Sleazy's has arguably the best open mic night. That's a must. And you'll meet people there that can help you better.
also have a look at the jockrock forum, theree will be loads of people with advice there, i've seen a successful thread like this there recently, you might even be able ot find it! http://www.jockrock.org/forum/
