It's almost 2005! I haven't measured yet this month. I am planning to measure on Saturday the 4th, which is wash day . I hope my hair has grown, though I am expecting very little growth because it's winter time.

Love,

35"

December 2 2004, 3:45 PM

Mum was saying all month that my hair looks "suddenly longer," and I guess it has grown quite a bit! 0.8"! In 2004, my net growth was 6.8". Yay! 35" was my goal, so I don't know what I'm going to do from here!

I got my Sierra Legacy comb!

December 2 2004, 3:48 PM

It's so wonderful! It is engraved with my name on the handle in absolutely gorgeous script! I combed it through my hair as soon as I got it, and it detangled perfectly, leaving my hair smooth and soft. I think I have found a new love

No more school!

December 15 2004, 6:14 PM

Yay! I'm on winter break till January 10! Lots of time to relax (I'll momentarily forget about all the work I have to do )

Nothing really new in hair news. I'm pretty sure I've crossed tailbone now. Mum says that my hair is "suddenly looking really lovely" which is really odd, because I have been having a really bad hair week (it has been overconditioned from my last deep condition). She said that I've lost whatever loose curl I used to have and it is now just big waves. I guess I had better change my sig to 2a instead of 2b. I can't wait till Fox's package arrives with the Wrap, Snap & Go rollers! I am dying to use them for curling my hair. It's going to be so much fun

I noticed today that my ends are looking quite light brown. This happens when the dark henna fades, because I think I have remnants of old dye left in my ends. I'm not sure how much hair is actually dyed, but thankfully it is all in the same condition. Only the very ends get somewhat dry. Maybe for my next wash this weekend I can do a Lush henna treatment. My hair has been needing the protein, too.

I am absolutely loving my new comb. I have had a pic of it on my camera for ages, but I keep forgetting to upload it.

Also, a couple of mornings I woke up to find this really awesome curl in a piece of my bangs! I had scalpwashed the night before and slept with my scalp damp and my hair in a braid. This curl was so pretty I had to take a picture of it! All of my hair curls like this when it is shorter until I finger comb it!

Love,

Henna-ing!

December 17 2004, 11:10 PM

The other day, I saw my ends were a little lighter brown/red than usual, so here I am with some Lush Caca Brun on my head! I mixed in a tablespoon of espresso for some added color. I hope I have some ACV - I didn't see any in the cupboard and I need it, otherwise the color doesn't hold. I can always buy some in the morning before washing my hair, though .

Not much else to write. I've had a rather bad hair week (it has been too overconditioned and I haven't had time to clarify) and I'm hoping the henna will be a little perk-me-up .

Love,

Hair is drying...

December 18 2004, 11:35 AM

Usually I will forget to condition my hair after using henna, or forget to use my ACV rinse. After waking up, I waited till I got the ACV before washing, and I didn't forget any of the steps! The henna ended up being in for about 12 hours - an hour or two before sleeping, 8 hours while I slept, and a couple of hours waiting for the ACV.

Here are the steps I went through:

1. Got in the shower last night and wet all of my hair. Shampooed the scalp with Body Shop Honey Moisturizing Shampoo and let the shampoo go down the whole length. Wrapped a towel around the hair.

2. Made the henna mix. I used about 3/4 of a block of Lush Caca Brun and 1 tablespoon espresso. Mixed in boiling water. The consistency was a little runnier than usual, but that just made it easier to apply.

3. Took of the towel and put on some plastic gloves. Applied henna upside down in the sink, glopping it on in handfuls. I did not apply any to the scalp area. After applying all of the henna, I wrapped my hair into a bun on top of my head and put on a shower cap. Before sleeping, I put a towel on as well to ensure no leakage. My pillow was clean in the morning

4. When the ACV got here, I mixed in about 1-2 tablespoons with about a cup and a half of non-distilled tap water. I was getting impatient and didn't want to go to the kitchen to get distilled water, LOL. I set that aside.

5. Rinsed, rinsed, rinsed out the henna.

6. Put some Caring conditioner on, mostly on the ends, and detangled with my plastic wide-toothed comb. I detangled from the bottom up. This helps get the henna bits unstuck.

7. Rinsed out the conditioner and dunked my length into the ACV mixture. I let it sit for about 30 seconds before rinsing out.

8. Applied a tiny bit of conditioner, just to the ends, and rinsed out.

My hair is currently drying in a towel. I will take it out and let it air dry once it stops dripping.

Love,

Post-henna picture...

December 20 2004, 9:03 AM

I took this picture as my hair was drying. It had tons of waves that day! Must have been extra humidity in the air

Yesterday I was out with my mother, buying a traditional Bangladeshi gift for one of her Swiss friends. While we were in the store, she found a "Herbal Hair Oil" that I decided to buy. The ingredients looked nice. I really wanted to sniff it right there in the store, but thought it might look weird that I was opening it up. I got home and smelled it, and I don't really like the smell... the ingredients it contains are henna (not enough to change the color though), amla, trifala, lemon, and "six other trusted herbs." I'd like to know what they are, but there is no law in this country saying that you have to put everything on the ingredient list. I'm pretty sure there are no chemicals though.

I tried it on the ends of my hair as a leave-in and it seemed to make my hair pretty soft. I guess I wouldn't be able to use this as a leave-in, though, because the smell would stick. It might be okay for a pre-wash treatment. This weekend I'm doing a herbal wash, so I can put this on before the herbs and see how it is. If I don't like it, I'll put it up for swap. There must be someone who likes lemony-scented oils .

Love,

Good hair days :)

December 22 2004, 12:15 PM

I have really been enjoying my hair lately; leaving it down often, experimenting with new styles, etc. Last night, my ends felt a bit dry (it had been in a knotty bun and I spent two hours at a friends house with the tail rubbing against the couch). I don't usually let my hair rub on chairs and things, but the tail was too short to stay forward or flip above the couch, and besides, I had sunk into the comfort of the couch and didn't want to move, LOL . Anyway, when I took the bun down, my ends felt a bit dry. I hardly ever use leave-in anymore, because my hair doesn't seem to really need it, but I misted my rosemary water on and applied some SBCC. My hair is still in my nighttime braid (and I'm still in my pajamas... oh how I love holidays!) but the ends feel much softer and moisturized.

I just realized that the maid moved all of my junk from the couch to my shelf, so I have quite a bit of cleaning up to do. I'm going to a rock concert (don't ask why! I don't like rock music!) later in the day, and I scalp washed, so I might leave my hair down. It depends. If there are people smoking, then it goes up in an instant! I hate cigarette smoke, especially in my hair!

I have had such a busy week. My friends don't realize that I like some days just relaxing in my pajamas, and every afternoon/evening I am dragged out to do something or the other. Next week, though, my friends will be going to their homes for Christmas, so I will have more "me time."

Anyway, I have to go. My SAT math prerp book has been unopened for a couple of days and it is calling out to me!

Love,
~*Leia*~

Trying out my new oil...

December 23 2004, 8:47 PM

I've just put some of my "Herbal Hair Oil" in my hair. I am planning to leave it on overnight, and see how my hair feels in the morning. If it isn't nice, tomorrow is washing day anyway and I will be clarifying with my herbs. If it is nice, I will learn to ignore the smell and perhaps only use it as a wash-out treatment. I like the subtle smell of my almond oil, so I can use that as my leave-in oil .

Yesterday, I went to the rock concert. I'm so happy I went, even though I had an awful time, because now I know never to go to a place like that again! From the way my friends were talking about it, I thought it would be a respectable concert. I did NOT expect to have cigarette smoke blown at me from all angles! Lucky for me, my hair was up in a bun, and didn't catch any of the cigarette smell. I couldn't hear anything for about 10 minutes after leaving the concert because it had been so loud! I only stayed for an hour at most, leaving once in between to breathe some fresh air. I really am glad I went, because I learned a very valuable lesson yesterday. I don't belong in rock concerts . Some of my friends enjoyed themselves, though, which is good!

Back to hair - one of my friends noticed today that my hair was looking flat (read: thin). I had it in a low barrette ponytail. Usually, my hair is too thick to stay in barrettes, but today I had plenty of leftover space after putting the barrette in! I have noticed an increase in shedding, but that is natural for me at this time of the year. I know that henna has an immediate thinning effect, but one wash after the henna usually leaves my hair feeling better. I will see day after tomorrow when my hair is freshly washed and clean again.

Love,
~*Leia*~

I quite like it!

December 24 2004, 7:42 PM

This morning, most of the oil was still in my hair. However, a few hours later, the oil that was in the ends was absorbed. Obviously, they are a lot drier than my still-oily length. I put on some more oil on just the ends because I know I will be using my herbs tonight. The Indian herbs, while cleansing and moisturizing for the most part, sometimes leave my ends a bit dry.

The lemon smell isn't bothering me as much anymore either. Once the oil is on my hair, the scent is very faint. I still might put this up for swap, though. I only bought it because I thought it would have a nice herbal smell, and now that I know it doesn't, I don't know how much I want it anymore. It does work nicely in my hair, but I have other oils that work well too. I will consider it .

I have to remember to try a herb-yogurt mix. I won't do it tonight because my length is oily and I need a good clarifying wash, but maybe the week before school starts (my next herbal wash night) I can try it.

Love,

Herbal wash last night

December 25 2004, 12:15 PM

And my hair is very happy! It is still drying, but it smells fantastic. I love the smell of my herbs! My ends are a little dry, so I put on a tiny bit of almond oil. When all of my hair dries, I will be able to assess my ends' need for shea butter and add it as necessary.

Earlier this morning, I was lying on the sofa with Mum and my hair was flipped over the arm of the couch. When my daddy came, he told me that quite a bit of it was on the floor! That's bad because my hair was freshly washed, but good because it's getting so long now!

When I have school, I have to put my hair up a few hours after washing it to go out, so it always dries straighter than it would if left to air dry naturally, even if I don't comb it. However, recently, I have been experimenting with letting it air dry completely without even running a comb through it. I have mounds of endless waves, which I absolutely adore

Oh! And Merry Christmas everyone!

Pictures!

December 26 2004, 8:12 AM

I took this one as my hair was drying from my wash.

Later on that evening, I combed through my hair to get ready to put it in my nighttime braid. I went to tell my mother that I was going to bed, and her friend was there. This is the same friend that once told me that I need to cut my hair because long hair is unstylish. As I was leaving the room, I had begun braiding my hair, and Mum said, "Wow, Leia, it has really gotten long." And her friend said, "Yes, longer and thicker and nicer!"

This is my hair exactly as it looked then (ignore the blue pajamas, LOL!)

I like this pic because my hair is looking thick

Breakfast

December 26 2004, 10:24 AM

I am indexing this thread in here so I can always find it.

What I really want to try:

- Fruit in the freezer (bananas, grapes)
- Fruit smoothies to take to school for the afternoon*
- Oatmeal
- Recipe from Heidi W.**

* Fruit smoothie recipe:
1-1/4 cups organic whole milk buttermilk, kefir, or yoghurt.
1 ripe banana OR 1 cup berries (fresh or frozen)
2 Tbsp Coconut Oil
2 egg yolks (these MUST be organic, free-range so that there's no salmonella risk)
3-4 Tbsp maple syrup or raw honey, or 1/4 tsp stevia powder
If using banana, add 1 tsp vanilla extract and a pinch of nutmeg

**1 piece of whole grain bread (if sensitive to wheat, choose a bread made from rice)
in a bowl mix some thawed strawberry slices (or any berry of your choice, or peach) and about 1/2 cup of ricotta cheese (ricotta cheese is more watery and contains fewer oils than other cheeses. in this context it's a dry cheese)
spread the mixture on the slice of bread and then
place all under the broiler or in a broiling toaster oven for about 3-5 minutes (watch closely. it doesn't taste as good burnt)
broil until the top of the cheese has become a light golden brown.

Of course this is related to my hair . What I eat affects my hair growth and shedding!

Love,
~*Leia*~

Trim day!

December 27 2004, 8:03 PM

I trimmed the tiniest bit off my very ends today. It was the MM day for beautifying. Apart from my bangs, I still have one layer that is a couple of inches above the ends. My very ends looked so thin today, so I trimmed away the thinnest part. I hope that my hair will be all one length very soon!

Great day!

December 28 2004, 3:19 PM

I am having an absolutely wonderful day! I don't know what it is. I guess I just woke up on the right side of the bed this morning!

I took a break from bellydancing. My brother (the work-out expert) says it's good to take breaks every few days to let your muscles relax and grow. My stomach muscles did look defined this morning, so I guess that is a good thing! I really need to get back into the habit of doing yoga. It's so wonderful to do yoga as the sun rises and filters in through the window!

I haven't practised piano yet today, so I am typing to get my fingers warmed up (lol!) so I can go and play. I took an SAT math practise test and I got 4 points higher than I did yesterday. Yay! I'm so happy. I'm no math genius, so any improvement is great for me.

I have a new sig pic! I snapped it this morning after combing through my hair. It feels so soft and I am very happy with it. Onwards to classic, I guess!

Love,

Had a very relaxing day...

December 29 2004, 7:24 PM

After my shower in the morning, I went into a comfy pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt. I was able to do some math practise (somehow, I increased my score by almost 20 points since yesterday! ), piano practise, and catch-up on my cross stitch. I am almost halfway done with it. My hair was in a braid all day, out of my face, after my scalpwash this morning.

My parents are having a big dinner tonight, so I thought it would be nice if I went out with my friends to stay out of their hair . Mum feels really bad when she has friends over and I am home because she knows I am all alone! She is such a sweetie. For dinner tonight, I am leaving my hair fully down - something I haven't done in YEARS! My bangs are finally long enough to stay behind my shoulder for the most part. Since I scalpwashed this morning, my hair is very clean and fluffy on the scalp. I will have to report later whether my hair frizzes and how I feel with my hair down for an extended period of time. It's okay to have it down at home, because it doesn't have to look nice, but I would like to leave it down when I go out, so this will be the test .

Love,
~*Leia*~

Update

December 30 2004, 9:39 AM

Last night truly was the test for my hair. This is wedding season, and as I got to one of my friends' houses, the road was blocked due to a massive wedding celebration. So my friends and I had to walk down the road to her house, which was about a 7 minute walk (wrong time for me to choose to wear high heels out! LOL!) In any case it's not safe to walk anywhere in this country because of kidnappings/rape/a number of other things, so even with a "bodyguard" we were still vulnerable. Anyway, my hair was down, inhaling all the dust in the polluted atmosphere. I walked all the way there and all the way back to the car with my hair down. It was also down in the restaurant. I think it was about 2.5 hours total. Not much, but still enough for frizz/tangles.

In the lift on the way up, I was glancing at my hair in the mirrors. It didn't seem to be very frizzy. "Ah," I thought, "It must at least be tangly to make up for the frizz-lessness." I changed into my pajamas and began making my nighttime braid when I realized there were no tangles at all!

My hair had survived the car, the pollution, and the dry outside air. No frizz, no tangles! Yay!

I think this calls for more down days. I love my hair down, and really, what is the point of long, untangled hair, if not to show it off?

Love,
~*Leia*~

Morning routines

December 30 2004, 9:58 AM

I am a very routine-oriented person and tend to slip into routines without meaning to very often . Lately, I have been checking the long hair sites and my e-mail first thing in the morning. At around 9, I start my workout. I usually bellydance and then do some ab workouts
. Sometimes I will follow that with yoga. On school days, I do yoga at 6 am when I wake up, and I will start that again when school starts. Of course I have to change my whole routine then, because I won't have much time to exercise till after school!

After my 40-50 minute workout, I take a quick shower and then watch Rugrats at 10 . It's my favorite cartoon show, LOL. Then at 10.30 I do my 2-3 hour piano practise. If I have time before lunch, I will do some SAT study, or I will save that till after lunch. Then for the rest of the afternoon I am free to do whatever I want - watch TV with my dad, go out with friends, or have a quiet afternoon reading .

I am getting lots of rest and relaxation because I know that once school starts, it will be very hectic and I am going to be in full-speed working mode. I need as much rest as possible in order to be able to start working hard!

Love,
~*Leia*~
