37.8"

April 30 2005, 10:13 AM

Oh my goodness, my hair grew ONE FULL INCH this month! WOW! I cannot believe this! And it's only a couple of inches away from the big 4-0! I was certainly not expecting this kind of growth.

Reasons for the growth spurt:

- A couple of scalp massages here and there, which is more than I usually do
- Two glasses of milk a day instead of one
- My new eating habits (5 meals a day, but extremely tiny and healthy meals. I am losing weight every day! I think I'm 107 lbs now!)
- A huge amount of fruit intake - I have watermelon, pineapple, and grapes at least 2-3 times a day
- The onset of summer? Summer growth is great

I have no idea what else could have contributed, but I am ECSTATIC!

Love,

I got to come home early today from school!

May 1 2005, 3:09 PM

I came home at 11 am today, rather than 3.10 pm, because I have my AP English Language and Composition exam tomorrow morning. It is supposed to be study leave, but I don't think that you can study for a year's worth of a course in a few extra hours. I studied for the past month, and did a quick review today by looking over some sample essays and going over some literary terms and rhetorical devices. I think I am prepared! Please, whoever is reading this, send me good vibes so that I can earn a 5!

Back on topic: My hair feels and smells great. It is slightly overconditioned, but that is to be expected anyhow, especially since I used the heatcap! Experience tells me that most of the greasiness will be gone by the end of the week, and anyway, it's WAY too hot to wear my hair down these days.

For my exam tomorrow, I am planning on wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt, which is usually what I wear to bed. That way I will be comfortable for the exam. I think I'll put my hair in a low braided bun, which is secure, well-balanced, and won't need to be taken down during the day.

This morning, before putting my hair up in a swirly bun, I misted with my rosemary/distilled water/almond oil mix. Even after I took out my hairstick when I got home and lay down on my bun, it only loosened and didn't fall apart because of the moisture holding it together! I had to pull it apart myself. I haven't combed it, so it is quite thin and a little greasy-looking. It's 2 pm and the sky is a little overcast and gray, so I am hoping it will rain so I can go on the roof and get soaked from hair to toe. Rainwater is fabulous!

Now I am off to RELAX and get the exam off my mind. I have to spend the day relaxing so that I am refreshed tomorrow morning and my mind is clear and sharp (well, as sharp as it CAN be, anyway!)

Love,
~*Leia*~

AP English Language & Composition is over!

May 2 2005, 10:20 PM

YAY! My first ever AP exam is now complete. I am SO thrilled to have it done and out of the way! THANK YOU to everyone for the well wishes and the nice e-mails! That was really too sweet of you all! I really hope I did well!

I'm trimming on May 7th. I hope that I keep up with my great growth - I am almost catching up to Fox and Daisy! Yes, their hair exceeds mine in beauty, but I'm catching up with length! This is why May 7th is perfect for me - it's for beautification!

Anyway, I am heading off to have an early night. I have the French Honor Society Induction Ceremony tomorrow evening, and I have a lot of preparation and speaking to do then, so I have to be well-rested, especially after such an exhausting day!

Love,
~*Leia*~

I washed my hair last night...

May 7 2005, 10:04 AM

And today is trim day! Oh, before I forget, I do have a picture to post from last night.

It seems to me that I am performing so often these days. When I think about it, since 2005 started I have performed at least once a month! January was our school concert, February was my recital, March was International Honor Choir, April was our school Idol competition and the talent show, and then this month I performed at Classical Night last night! I played a piano duet with my friend. I'm also in another concert on the 25th of this month! Now I'm getting a taste of how life will be in university . I will probably have tons of performances.

After the concert last night, my piano duet partner's father got us both bunches of flowers . My parents didn't come (which is alright; I asked them not to! They only come to performances that are really important and mostly featuring me, like my solo recital which will be in October) so I thought it was really sweet that they brought me flowers like that. They were taking tons of pictures of us, and for one of them I turned around, so I got a nice hair shot, LOL! A candid hair pic . It was really dirty and I had curled it for the evening, but even so it was icky and in dire need of a wash. Here is the pic.

Also, it was really rare of me to not be wearing black, but Mum had bought this really pretty bright pink dress for me, and I just had to wear it! I'm really glad, too, because I was the only one not wearing something black. In the pic, you can see me holding the bouquet of flowers!

Anyway, last night, I massaged my scalp with the Everyday Mehndi Lavender Hair Growth oil, which felt really great on my scalp. I turned upside down a bit and my head got all tingly from the spicy oil and from the blood rushing to my scalp! I also put bhringraj oil on the length of my hair. It was very thirsty and drank all the bhringraj up . Then I let that sit for 30 minutes to an hour, and then applied a mixture of:

- 1 tablespoon bhringraj powder
- 1 tablespoon aritha powder
- 1 tablespoon amla powder
- 1 tablespoon sandalwood powder
- 1 tablespoon shikakai powder

I am out of neem! And I couldn't find my methi (fenugreek) either. Anyway, I mixed this with some hot water out of my sink and applied to mostly my length and some of my scalp. I left it on overnight (I had a good, long, 9-hour sleep) and then rinsed this morning. And of course, shampooed my scalp with my Body Shop Honey Moisturizing shampoo!

My hair is currently drying, and I am off to check the Loom!

Love,
~*Leia*~

Quick picture update...

May 16 2005, 3:15 PM

I've been really busy these days - my last AP exam was a week ago, but the proctor made a mistake with the timing so now we have to retake it this Friday, which is also prom day!! So everything has been hectic. Here are a couple of pictures from last week.

Well, like I said on the Loom, this month has been crazily hectic. It's all finally calming down, though, which is good! Hopefully I'll be able to post more often!

Hair antics

May 21 2005, 3:07 PM

This past week I have been doing something with my hair every day! I have changed my routine slightly, but I still have to tweak it to fit my schedule. I will re-post it when I know if it is working for me . My hair antics this week were:

Tuesday, May 17th - It was storming heavily, and I didn't want to go on the roof and get wet because I had just showered and was all clean and didn't want to change. So, instead, I asked someone to put a bucket up there and collect some rainwater for me. They did, and I got about 1/4 of a bucket full of water. It was the perfect amount to soak my hair in! I was having a blah hair week, so I dunked my hair in and put my hair in a knot without wringing any of the water out. I left it that way for about an hour or so, and then took my hair down to dry.

Wednesday, May 18th - I did a Timotei scalp wash, because my scalp was starting to get greasy and I wanted it to be clean for the prom .

Thursday, May 19th - I started doing my prom hair that evening. I did a CO on the length only with Balsamo Alla China, an Italian herbal conditioner that Tanja sent me. I let my hair dry for about 45 minutes to an hour. I REALLY should have waited longer, because it wasn't 100% dry 24 hours later, for prom! Then I applied some of my Mum's Joico K-Pak Styling Balm, because I was afraid I would end up a frizz-head after hours on the dance floor at prom, and it really worked! I didn't have any frizz at all. This balm also has sparkles in it, and smells nice . Anyway, I put that on my length, and put my hair in Wrap, Snap & Go curlers. I left it that way for the night, and wore it to my AP Chemistry exam, with a scarf wrapped around it, LOL! It was quite comfortable, though. I blasted it with a blow dryer while it was still in the curlers, and then took it down about 2 hours before going to the prom. It dried before I left.

Friday, May 20th - After coming home from prom, I realized it was my hair wash night, but I was really exhausted. I don't know HOW my friends managed to stay up and dance MORE at after prom. I was ready to go to bed! I didn't have the energy to properly do my hair, so I slathered bhringraj oil on the length and massaged Everyday Mehndi Hair Growth Oil on the scalp. I slept with that overnight with my hair in a bun. Then, this morning, I applied my herbal mixture - 1 tablespoon each of bhringraj, amla, aritha, shikakai, and sandalwood powders. I am out of neem! I left that in with my hair in a bun while I went to piano class - LOL, this seems like my unpresentable hair weekend - then I washed it out two hours later.

My hair is drying now .

Love,
~*Leia*~

New routine!

May 27 2005, 2:36 PM

This is not much different from my old routine, except the deep conditioning. I have learned that my hair cannot handle too much conditioner, especially when I leave it in overnight, so a special friend recommended that I put the conditioner in while I have my once-a-week "pretty bath," so that it soaks for 20 minutes and doesn't leave my hair as greasy and lank.

Here is my new routine.

Washing:
I wash once a week. On Friday night, I apply a mixture of Indian herbs and leave them in overnight, rinsing and shampooing my scalp in the morning. The next week, I will deep condition. I used to do this overnight as well, but now I do it in the day, and leave the conditioner in for 10-20 minutes; however long my bath ends up being.

Products:
When I want to scalpwash, which is about once a week, I will use one of my Lush solid shampoos (Karma Komba, Stimulating Spice, or Dr. Peppermint) or my Timotei "Refreshing Cucumber" shampoo. I have used "Caring" conditioner for more than 2 years now; it is a product that never fails to condition and perfectly detangle my hair. It is good for deep conditioning or normal conditioning. Though I don't use it much anymore because I have problems with overconditioning, it is one of my favorite conditioners. Unfortunately, it is not available anywhere but Bangkok. I also use Lush Arabian Bright, John Frieda's Miracle Masque and Kelp Help, and Proactiv protein treatment. Oh, and of course, my favorite shampoo - Body Shop Honey Moisturizing Shampoo!

Herbs:
I use Indian herbs to cleanse and condition my hair. Read more about that here.

Detangling:
I use a wide-toothed comb for detangling and styling purposes. I have one plastic one, which I use on wet hair, and one LHC from Ric the Combmaker, in White Oak.

Leave-in:
I use shea butter for my leave-in most of the time, which I apply to the end of my braid overnight on most nights. Sometimes, in the morning, after applying almond oil to my face, I run my fingers through the length of my hair.

Oiling:
I find oiling my hair is one of the most beneficial things I can do. I use olive oil, almond oil, and bhringraj oil. My favorite method of removal is herbal cleansing (see above, under herbs).

Trimming:
I trim as often as needed according to the Morrocco Method trim dates, found here.
I use Feye's method for trimming your own hair.

At my last measure in, I was at almost 37". I am adding this information in here so that those reading this can have an idea of how long my hair was when I had this routine.

Oh! And check out my sig. Carlynn made me a GORGEOUS dolly. She is such a sweet and special lady for making me one. It really looks like me, too! I love it!

Love,
~*Leia*~

A few pics...

May 27 2005, 5:51 PM

I've seen so many beautiful, artsy pictures on the long hair boards, and I thought I would take a few myself today. Unfortunately, mine aren't half as nice as the other ones, LOL. I had to balance my camera on low tables, so I couldn't get any full-length shots. Also, my hair was still drying, but I had to take the pics before the sun went down, so it looks a bit thin and damp.

This first one shows most of the length. You can see how it's a little reddish at the bottom, still...

This one just shows the top half...

Here is a full-length one, among tons of greenery ...

I like the way my ends look in this one, tee hee...

Trim!

May 30 2005, 10:27 PM

I trimmed off the teensiest amount tonight. I think it was the MM day for strenghtening.

My hair is actually not greasy after using conditioner! It is quite soft, actually! It does feel a little coated, but it's not too bad. My scalp was quite greasy, but I just shampooed it again the next day (Saturday) and now it is fine.

Eek! I had better get offline and go to bed. My final exams start tomorrow! French is the first one! A demain!
