Another desert jack rabbit hunt (pics).....

Headed out to the Mohave with my brother this weekend for some surf/turf. the plan was to fish the aqueduct for awhile, then go for some Jack rabbits. Well, the fishing was pure crap at the 'duct, so we went straight to shooting.

I was using my Techstar, and he was using his PSP blue streak. Same long range tactics as usual, but I picked a better camo pattern this time, and took my time moving through the brush, which payed off for me. The first rabbit flushed to the right and bolted in a slow arc to the left. Well, I followed it, but before I reached it, I chucked a rock off to the right and cut left. Well, he bolted left when he heard the rock hit, doubled back, and came down an open game trail right toward me. I froze, and he froze, staring right at me from 35 yards, trying to decide if i was a threat or a bush, lol. Then he stood up on his hind legs to get a better look! Well i sunk a JSB right into his chest at that point, and he flipped over backwards. One for the bag.

We pressed on, and I heard a shot from about 500 yards to the right. Armand had shot one in the shoulder from about 125 yards, but apparently wasn't able to recover it. We headed on for awhile without seeing anything, then split up again for about 30 minutes. I was creeping through a stand of juniper when i saw a lump under bush at 100 yards. I scoped in, and sure enough, a nice fat jack was sitting there. I lined up an offhand shot and held over, then SWAT! Sank one right into his shoulder. He ran about 30 yards and hid behind a bush. I stalked in slowly, and circled to the right to get an open shot. His ears were poking up over the bush, so I knew where the head was. I took a shot through the bush, and heard the solid 'CRACK" of the headshot. Jack #2 for the bag. Well, at this point, we headed back to the car, broke out the .22 rimfire, and started to plink random objects for awhile (after not hunting for so long, we need the practice!). After getting bored with that we finally packed it up, and headed out. Here are a few pics of the adventure:

All in all, a good trip. Apparently I'm getting back into the swing of things, cause I had a 100% hit ratio on this hunt. Have fun, guys.
