what i muzzle break's main purpose is to redirect the flow of gases...in this case air. instead of air flying straight forward out of the barel creating a rocket like effect, the muzzle brake will break the flow of the gases by sending them side ways. thus less recoil.

it is good to be using one of these on a springer (espeaily without a scope stop) because springers have recoil. recoil causes the scope to move. this means repeaditive zeroing in. which can be a pain. muzzle breaks will not fix that problem. but it will help reduce the problem from happening as much.

you can see muzzle breaks on modern high caliber fire arms. varying in different sizes.

but like said before me, they mainly just look cool.
