For years, the 2240 was a joy

to tinker with and modify. Many have chosen to turn the inexpensive pistol into a carbine, add longer barrel, trigger shoe and maybe carve some grips. The entire Crosman forum is plastered with posting from some top shelf machinists and all around crafty guys. The customization of Crosman airguns is cult-like and I have done it myself to a 1377. After adding steel breech and shoulder stock it was sent off to PSP for the power mod and tune. What a great pistol-turned-carbine!

Mine is the one with squirrel on this page;

Anyway, the 2250XE seems nothing more than a 2250B ($80) with steel breech ($30), longer barrel ($15) and a pecan stock. I'd still want a tune on the basic model, 2250B, 2240 or the XE because the power isn't sufficient for my needs, squirrel, crow out to 40 yards. Once you've had it for a while, that bug will bite and you'll want to customize it for yourself with or without help from a tuner.

If performance is your main goal, look at the 2260 SE for .22 caliber, or 1760 SE for .177 caliber. Turning a pistol into a carbine so that it can perform like a rifle? Just get the rifle! You won't have that fly-rod feeling from something that is just as long. The newer 2260 SE has dovetails and a scope (BugBuster). A power tune, although not always required, will make that rifle a better value in my opinion.

Cosmetically, the 2250XE looks sharp and is built on a proven platform! Let's see what kind of price tag it will have...
