Thx, the messages are a little slow, but that was some good advice, (for a smart guy, lol,) I haven't had a chance to check the Canadian walmart yet because I live on a small island about 3 hours drive from the nearest Canadian walmart, but I have looked in the American one thats closer and they do have some beauties but all over 495fps. I'm looking into getting a gun license so I could buy a faster gun, but it seems pretty expensive, (cruddy new law brought in by the liberals and the conservatives cant change it due to a minority government 2 years running.) The other reason I might get a gun license is because of the price variant, for about 150$ I can get a wood stocked gun in canada at canadian tire that shoots 495fps and shoots .177 pellets and bb's. In the U.S. I can get one almost IDENTICAL for 79$ that shoots 600fps and one for 139$ that shoots 1000fps. AKA it might be better to get the license and get one in the U.S., but I'll update on that as I go.
The reason I asked about the pellets is because as I said I have been hunting red squirrels, with a scopeless pellet gun and though I have been fairly accurate, (hitting one in head,) I have hit 2 in the shoulder, where the pellet has glanced off the bone and sliced just under the skin, (not cutting the muscle,) to the other side of the squirrel but not out the other side, leaving the squirrel wriggling on the ground till I shoot it again. When I make a kill I want it to be clean, so I guess a pellet change would be good. This has happened with both bb-nosed pellets and flatheads.
The first one I hit this way fell out of the tree and I was sure it was dead, but when I walked over I found it nowhere to be seen, so I assumed it went in its hole at the base of the tree. I ran home and got my dog, (a small beagle/terrier mix, a very good mouser,) and returned to the spot. Instantly he dug out the hole, which was large enough for him to go completely inside, (he's about 2ft. long and 8in. high.) I heard a rustling sound and looked in to see his body vibrating, backing off he crawled out of th e hole and dropped a nice fat squirrel at my feet. It was a classic hunting moment and I will be taking him with me on the rest of my trips.
