Yes, Joe, while rehearsing, elswhere in the room we also have a few extra lamps that are pointed to the walls for additional lighting (like the one pointed to the sun behind the drumset).
Buddy, you're pretty much onto me although the lights are not dimmed entirely due to the intimidation; we turn the lights down (and toward the walls) also because we are so damn hard to look at. Maybe a dress might help, thanks for the suggestion.
The musicians in this group actually comprise two bands among ourselves, with different set lists, different material, different genre (whatever that means), etc. We are recording one of our acts' CD in a studio(s) here in the bay area...the other project will be more DIY and recorded right in this big room (I finally replaced my Soundcraft 600 with a WR-DA7 digital board).
