No problem waiting for a reply. I'm still trying to get the Jetta street legal, should pass inspection now. Runs fine on diesel, so even that will ease the burden on my wallet. The veg conversion can wait. Plenty of time to research before pulling the trigger.

1969 Fairlane Station Wagon - mild 351C w/Aussie heads - best 15mpg. Driven daily.
1972 F250 Camper Special - 360 FE + 3.73 gear = at best 12mpg
1973 Gran Torino - body off frame currently to convert to 1972 frame and front clip = 0 mpg. Will be 460 (or more) powered. I'm nuts.
Buying the VeeDub was cheaper than adding an overdrive to the other vehicles (still in the plans though). In an insane world, it was the sanest choice.
