So, back to the Ampeg. The damn thing is stingy on the transformer windings. Just B+ and filament. So, I can't get no relay action satisfaction (no voltage for relay swiching). But I have had this big ol' 4 pole, double throw bat toggle switch laying around for some time. With this, provided the internal isolation is up to it, could switch two tubes off and switch two remaining ones into triode for 2/3rds of the half volume thang. Manually resetting the impedence would complete the job. If the switch does not work out, two dpdt switches would (much less pretty).

The impedence switch is a slider. This concerns me. They don't make great positive contact when new. Also, it does not have a "bat", but rather the actuator is recessed with a slot so you need to use a thumbnail or a flatbladed screwdriver to switch. Not covenient for fast switching. But the opening for the switch is rectangular, and the silkscreening matches it so jammimg a proper rotary switch is not an elegant way to make this sitch better. I think I will keep my mitts iff of it but I reserve the right to frown at it.

I was not happy with the power at clipping with some used US 6L6s. It was about 60 watts. That's low. I have not yet stuffed in the new 6L6s. I will make some more measurments and then isolate the driver and output section before firing up the new tubes.

Liberty has never come from the government.
Liberty has always come from the subjects of it.
The history of liberty is a history of resistance.
The history of liberty is a history of the limitation of governmental power, not the increase of it.
