I had a friend give me a set of Altec Iconic speakers that he bought new in about 1970. His wife didn't like them and said that they didn't fit into their decor. Needless to say I had no problem accepting them into the decor of my basement music room. I hooked them up today and they sound AWESOME! Very nice mid bass response and the highs are nice and sweet sounding and certainly no worse for the wear. He told me that he thought that they cost about $1000 when he bought them and I was wondering if anyone had any info on this model. I believe it's 1x15 with a single high freq horn. High Freq attenuation knob on the back of the cabinet.

I looked on the net and I found that there were several versions of the Iconic in various sizes. The ones I have are a rather large cabinet, 28xabout18deep by about30 inches tall but mine have a front loaded woofer and a horn loaded tweeter(some models must have a horn loaded woofer).

What sort of power are they designed for? I have them on about a 30 watt amp I guess I'll need to find some old McIntosh amps to go with them!
