......we learned the same thing that you alluded to: Mesa Boogie tubes seem to be private-labeled from a company in China and of which whose tubes are not considered by most to be particuarly high on the food chain. I know nothing about tubes and was surprised to learn of how common the practice of private-labeling tubes is. I don't know why I didn't consider that possibility before; afterall, not too many tube manufacturers remain and I am also already familiar with other aspects of tube applications in other industries and had some insight from there.
Dave (guitar) will be looking at Sovteks and JJ's, a Czech company I think. His setup really screams and has a unique and decent tone...maybe it's a good thing the Sovteks are used in his pre's. He still wants to R&R the others, though.
Sorry if I was a little vague with the initial post...my vagueness is apparently directly proportional to my knowledge in this area.
