Response to Sigh.

You're right I got a little off with that Hiwatt trip. I bought my Hiwatt stuff about 15 years ago for about $650, how times change. Do you think you could find an amp that he likes and then just tone it down as needed using an attenuator or an output tube swap? Somewhere on this forum I posted a little about doing this to a 50 watt Marshall as an experiment. I swapped out the KT66's we normally use in that amp for a set of 6V6's. It sounded good but it just didn't have quite enough punch for Myles' use in a gig situation but it wasn't far off. He has to use his volume knob to change his tone all night long and he felt that he just needed the amp to be a little more dynamic. Something like this could be cool. Most old Fender amps will take this mod with only a bias adjustment. I've experimented with this on a Blues Deluxe, Tweed Bassman and a Super Reverb using an EH 6V6 which handled the voltages easily. Blues Deluxe benefited greatly from this mod and a speaker swap to something lighter.

Also, there are at least two Blues JR amp versions, a green board one and a white board with subtle differences. The one I was working with was a white board I believe.
