I believe they are OK as they sound fantastic until I get on them. I have a bad feeling that this is all in my head! I'll know when the new ones arrive next week. I spent some time today playing with them. The amp clearly begins to break up a bit at the 5+ volume setting and it is a sweet tone. I think the speakers are also beginning their break up as well at that point. Weber states the speakers have an early break up so I guess that's what I'm hearing. My problem (one of many) is that I don't like the sound of distorting speakers. I just like the sound of a screaming tube amp. I do realize many musicians do like the distorting added by the speakers and this is probably why Weber designed the speaker this way. This is part of the reason I've always favored JBL. It was just about impossible to get them to distort with the amps that were around in the late 60's - early 70's (other than the monster amps like Sunn and such).
I would have loved to buy the higher powered alnicos, but at $165 each I just couldn't bring myself to do it.
