Anyone got bass onboard pre-amp schematics?

In my tradition of jumping into projects way over my head, I've decided I'm going to build myself a 5-string fretless bass. I'll post some pictures of progress if anyone's interested. I've designed tuners and a saddle for it, probably do the bridge too. I've completed machining one tuner so far... 14 hours in the shop to make this little fella, I call it the Frog Head tuner:

Anyways, back to the task at hand. I need an onboard preamp for this machine, I'd like to make it myself rather than drop $120 on one. Even though it'd be one of the last things to go into the bass, I kinda need it soon so I can route out the hole for it while the body is still square/not carved up.
Thanks!

What bass needs a preamp? Are you going to run a 500' cord?

I found a schematic from googling, seems pretty simple and very compact.

I could always pop open my rickenbacker and copy whatever circuit they have in there.
