Ok folks, I am so glad i found this board. I have emailed several site owners I found on the net, and never get a response. I have an old scanner, a 16 channel bearcat. I loveit, but it's very limited. I want to buy a new scanner, in the $150 - $200 price range. I was considering the new Radio Shack 2052 pro, which is now only $150 new. But I read it could not be used to SEARCH for frequencies ranges enterered manualy, only ranges built-in.

I want a scanner that can pick up mostly everything, including 800 mhz ranges and 1000+ mhz ranges etc. I also want to be able to enter any range of frequencies, for example (These frequencies are just shown for an example of what I want the scanner to be able to do): 45.500 mhz as the lower range, then 55.500 mhz has the top range, and have the scanner SEARCH all frequencies between them two ranges, continously and find any active channels.

I also want the scanner to be a base system, for inside the home, not a portable or handheld unit.

Please advise me on what newer model or scanner I should get, I can buy it new in a store or get an older one on say eBay.

Thanks
Robert Benjamin

Thanks I will research that one. They list for $199 and sell local for $149 so yes that is a cheapie. I also found one I wasnt interested in at first because it's a portable, but recieves everything.
Uniden Bearcat BC2500XLT

I can get this model with a AC powersupply to run off house current, for $99 localy also, and am now researching this one. This one seems to cover more frequency ranges than the BC2500XLT.

I found I can get the scanners at a great reduced price from a local friend who maintains the 911 center and communications center in my area.

Yeah, I personally keep a FT-60R by Yaesu for mobile use, an IC-R3 for all <.5-2500> frequencies and an older Pro 51 by RS for the scanning in between (pre image cellular ban)
