This is the blurb from the BBC website the program was very intresting, looks like a good model for defeating an insurgency. An intresting thing was one RM guy saying they thought they where operateing under ROE that where far to restrictive, I wounder how they would react to being placed under todays rules

Fri 3 Dec, 9:00 pm - 10:00 pm  60mins

The Intelligence War

On June 16th 1948 assassination squads from the Malayan Communist Party (MCP) were dispatched to rubber estates in Malaya. At 8.30am they shot Arthur Walker, an English manager, in the head and chest killing him instantly. They were the first shots in a 12-year war to end British rule and establish a Communist state in Malaya.

Secret intelligence would prove decisive in this conflict fought in the steamy jungles of Malaya. Without intelligence Special Branch officers could not win. But success sometimes came at a price as the officers themselves explain.

The programme also features surviving members of the Malayan Communist Party, now living in southern Thailand, who give their perspective on the intelligence war.

Although for insurance purposes it was classified as an emergency, this 12-year undeclared war had a profound impact on British counter-insurgency operations. It proved a rare success against communist expansion at the time and had a lasting impact on British operations.

Contains scenes which some viewers may find upsetting.
