I am what the Muslims define as a Hindu. I believe in a Universal Spirit and the sanctity of everything living and non-living, I would like to use term God, but that term is abused to such great extent, I don't use it anymore.
I am a rationalist. I believe in Evolution, and anything that science proves. There is nothing called faith in my vocabulary. The Bible was written by man, the Koran was written by man, biologically man at least. Now, if you have an inclination to hero-worship because you have a weak personality, you will glorify a fellow human to be divine. This is why Christians and Muslims have been known for strong authoritarian systems, while we Hindus believe in individual freedom.
I think that the stories of mythology are metaphors in everyday life; the pantheon is a child's tone-down version of spiritualism, that the Universal Spirit may have several earthly representations.
I think that most of humanity is living inside the cave, where only a vague reflection of light reaches, and that everyone that conforms is living in a distorted truth. To make it out of this cave, one must first be willing to disbelieve bull**** of great (but devious) manipulators of the mind like the authors of Bible and Koran. Making it out of the cave, to see the light, is like getting spiritual perfection, moksha/nirvana.
The path to nirvana is entirely dependent on the individual, it is like getting laid. Every guy has his different strengths and weaknesses, different mindsets, etc. Same thing here. Islam gave Muhammad his nirvana, but I don't know about how it will give you your nirvana.
Most fundamentalist Christians and Muslims, are not spiritual at all. They follow the guidance as a doctrine, as a rule, but what works for one will not work for another. The fundamentalism derives out of a natural boredom and lack of identity, thus falling back on this highly personal identity as a means of global political identity.
Hindus after all, have also followed in the footsteps of these religions. We have first of all, started viewing ourselves as a religion, and to distinguish ourselves from the rest, there are a set of rules and principles governing life. Say not eating beef. Well, I eat beef. Or going to the temple. Well, I go to the temple once a year, for a social gathering. Or all these moralistic policies, of being virgin, of not sleeping around, etc, etc. I don't believe in those.
My friends think that I am "modern" because I "defy" my "religion". They of course defy their religion, but I have no religion to defy, I am not part of anything, I am just myself, so I defy nothing.
Now, on question of weed and Hindus. I have never done ganja, but my Rostafarian friends claim that it gets them closer to the light, which is same argument of many sages from India as well. Perhaps it is true. I know weed kills you, you as in your body, but I guess it opens up your mind, your inner eye to see beyond the shadow. After all, when you are high, you do go to an alternate reality.
My Filipina friend who is very close to me, has a Rostafarian boyfriend, he's from Dominican Republic. The Filipina is very religious, as in very ritualistic. Virgin Mary's adorn her house in all sizes on all floors at all levels. I asked her why she is going out with someone as liberal and completely opposite as a Rostafarian. She said that she likes opposites.
I met the guy finally last weekend. The guy told me he grows weed, that he meditates everyday before sleeping, etc, etc. And we got one thing off of us, how sorry we feel for the Filipina. Everytime we discuss faith with her, she knows that we are right, but her eyes turn dark and she starts thinking of what might happen if she goes against her religion (thanks to the great intimidation tactic in the Bible: concept of hell). She lets it rest at "I don't try to make others try to think like me". If she really is secure about her faith, she wouldn't let the topic rest at mutual respect.
Another thing, I think that sex is a divine life-creating act, not a sin, and that marriage is not natural, but a social(ly-imposed) bond.
Hindus, are well what can i say. make ur own mind up.
Hinduism is one of the oldest pre-Christian pagan religions still viable in the world today. While we think of it as the faith of Mother India, it actually traces it origins to a mysterious tribe of Europeans called the Aryans who invaded and conquered Northern India from 1500 BC to 500 BC. The light-skinned Brahmins of Northern India claim to be their physical and spiritual descendants.
The Aryans
The Aryans brought with them their sacred writings called the Vedas. They were originally fire worshippers and this is why they believed in cremation instead of burying their dead. They also invented the theory of soul-transmigration in which at death you do not go to heaven or to hell but you are reborn into another body on earth. This next body could be animal, vegetable or human depending on whether you were good or bad. Your past behavior catches up with you in your present life due to the law of karma.
You could in your next reincarnation end up a clam, a carrot, a bush or a human being. The highest rebirth you could wish for was to be born as one of the white-skinned Brahmins who by virtue of their color were considered the "higher" class.
The Ugly Reality of Racism
The inherent racism of historic Hinduism is thus blatant. You were judged by the color of your skin, not the content of your character, skills or talents. The darker your skin, the lower your caste and rank in Hindu society. The whiter your skin, the higher your caste and rank. The Brahmins prided themselves on their white skin while despising the darker skinned untouchables who were often viewed and treated as sub-humans.
This explains why Hindu gurus are more than willing to travel to the West to convert rich white Europeans to Hinduism BUT never travel to black Africa to make converts. The truth is, they don't want black people whose skin color is an indication of bad karma. As long as they can sucker rich white people into giving them money ("Money is evil. So give it all to me."). Why bother with darker skinned people?
This can be documented by the statements of many of the gurus who have reaped riches in the West. When one guru was asked on TV what he was doing to help the poor, he responded, "Let the Christians take care of them. I am here to help the rich."
The Caste System
The terrible caste system was invented in order to protect the white Brahmins from polluting their sacred whiteness with black blood. You had to marry and to labor in the caste into which you were born. The lines were clearly drawn and on one was allowed to move from one caste to another by marriage or trade.
The mechanism of the caste system is tied to the Hindu theory of soul-transmigration in which your rebirth determines your caste. Your rebirth was predetermined by your karma. Your karma was in turn was determined by how you lived in your past life. For example, if you were born with a dark skin to untouchable parents, your life of misery and poverty is your punishment for being evil in your previous life. In other words, you are getting what you deserved.
The poor, the sick, the disabled, the dark-skinned, etc. are what they are because of their own fault. They deserve their suffering because they did something bad in a previous life and their karma has caught up with them. We should not interfere with their suffering because if we do, we will doom them to experience it in the next life. Thus the kindest thing to do is to let them alone so they get their suffering over and hopefully have a better rebirth the next time around.
On the other hand, if you were born with white skin to Brahmin parents, your life of wealth and pleasure is your reward for good deeds done in your previous life. You deserve to be rich and white. You earned it. Thus you have no moral obligation to help those less fortunate them you.
The social inequities of Hinduism ultimately led millions of lower caste Indians to abandon Hinduism for Buddhism, Islam, Sikhism or Christianity because those religions did not lock them into a rigid caste system. Social and financial mobility required a change of religion. Of course, if you were a rich white Brahmin, why would you convert to a religion that would strip you of your social status and wealth?
Social Evils
Being originally fire worshippers, Hinduism developed the grisly practice of burning a widow alive on the funeral pyre of her husband (suttee). If she did not willing jump into the fire, she was often thrown into it by the mob gathered to watch her burn to death.
Child sacrifices to animal gods such as sacred crocodiles were common until this Hindu practice was criminalized by the British. The ritual murder and burial of travelers by the Kali cult (the thugees) is another example of Hinduism's inherently demonic nature and inspiration.
Other immoral practices of Hinduism included using children as sex slaves in Hindu temples. They not only served the sexual perversions of the priests and gurus but were used as prostitutes to bring in money. The poorest of the poor who often could not afford to keep a new child, left the baby in a temple assuming that the child would have a better life with the priests than with its parents. They doomed their child to a life of pain and misery.
The tourist who travels to India's many temples is often shocked by wall art that depicts sodomy, child sex, orgies and bestiality of the grossest kind. Yet, all this is part of what lies at the core of Hinduism.
The same shock is received when tourists see Hindus drinking urine from animals and humans and smearing dung in their hair and on their body. The smell that emanates from the gurus, monks and holy men of Hinduism is enough to warn us that Hinduism is rotten to the core.
Why are we beginning our discussion of Hinduism with such ugly topics as racism, the caste system, burning of widows, ritual child abuse and gross immorality? To see the true nature of Hinduism we must study what it produces in those societies where it is the dominant religion. Thus a mere abstract philosophic presentation of Hinduism in the classroom will give a false view of it. Hinduism is far more than a list of abstract dogmas. It is actually a social program that seeks to organize a culture according to Hindu concepts of soul-transmigration, karma, race and caste.
The Philosophic Failures of Hinduism
1. Hinduism denies the existence of the infinite/personal triune God of the Bible who exists independent of and apart from the universe which He created out of nothing. It is atheistic in this sense.
2. Hinduism never solved the problem of the One and Many or the infinite/personal dichotomy.
3. Those Hindus who emphasize the One over the Many teach Monism (All is One) and pantheism (All is God), erasing any distinction between Creator and creation. "God" is an impersonal infinite force or power which manifests itself as the universe around us. The "things" we see around us do not really exist per se. They are only illusions of the One. This is what the high caste Hindus teach the Westerners who come to India in search of "enlightenment."
4. The vast majority of Hindus do not follow the Brahmin doctrine of monism. Instead of emphasizing the One over the Many, they emphasize the Many over the One and practice the most vile forms of polytheism imaginable in which they worship millions of gods and goddesses. It is said that the Hindus worship more gods and goddesses than the total number of Hindus who exist today. They worship snakes, monkeys, elephants, crocodiles, cats, insects and other absurdities.
5. As a world view, Hinduism fails to answer crucial questions:
a. Why does the Universe exist as opposed to not existing? Since it cannot answer this question, Hinduism simply denies the existence of the world around us. It is an illusion (maya) or dream.
b. Is the universe eternal or did it have a beginning? Hinduism has always taught that the universe is eternal. But this has been successfully refuted by modern science. This also exposes an inherent contradiction within Hinduism. If the universe does not exist but is illusionary in nature, how then is it eternal? How can Hinduism speak of the universe going through eternal cycles if the universe does not exist?
c. Why does the Universe exist in such a form that predictability and science are possible? By denying the existence of the world around it, Hinduism did not develop science and cannot exist why it works.
d. What is evil? Once again, since Hinduism could not answer this question, it simply denied that evil existed.
e. Why does evil exist? Hinduism cannot answer this question.
f. What is man? Hinduism denies that we actually exist.
g. How can we explain the uniqueness of man? Hinduism cannot explain why man is distinct from the world around him.
h. Why do we do evil? Hinduism cannot answer this question.
i. What is sin? Because it does not have a concept of a personal/infinite Creator, Hinduism has no concept of "sin" per se.
j. How do we obtain forgiveness for our sins? There is no forgiveness in Hinduism. You will have to suffer in the next life for the evil you do in this present life. This answer exposes an inescapable contradiction within Hindu philosophy. If the universe, evil, and man do not actually exist but are only illusions (Maya), then on what grounds does karma exist? If it does not actually exist either, then on what grounds does reincarnation happen?
k. On what basis can we explain man's desire for meaning, significance, justice, morals, truth and beauty? Hinduism has no answer to these questions.
l. How can we provide a sufficient basis for meaning, significance, justice, morals, truth and beauty? Hinduism cannot provide a philosophic basis for any of these things.
Conclusion
Hinduism cannot answer the essential philosophic questions that always arise wherever and whenever the human intellect matures. It has been weighed in the scales of truth and has been found lacking.
Even more importantly, Hinduism has no concept of a Creator God, the Creation, the Fall of man into sin and guilt, a Day of Judgment, atonement or forgiveness, or a Savior who redeems us from our sins by the sacrifice of Himself in our place.
It did not produce democracy, scie the Fall of man into sin and guilt, a Day of Judgment, atonement or forgiveness, or a Savior who redeems us from our sins by the sacrifice of Himself in our place.
It did not produce democracy, science or equality among different races and racks of mankind. Instead it produced great social evils, which afflict the Indian people to this day. As a religion and a philosophy, Hinduism is a complete failure and cannot provide a basis for meaning, significance, justice, morals, truth and beauty.

Thats total BS. If you actually know the sh*t you talk of, you'd be aware that Hinduism has its root in the Indus Valley civilization. Worship of many Indian gods have been found in WRITING in many many parts of India, as old as 4000 BCE.

The
More BS. Vedas were originally composed by the Dravidian peoples. The laws of karma and the idea has been a part of pre Aryan religions, so dont give me that. And the oldest remains of Aryan peoples are found in India, not in Europe or Central Asia, so its much more likely that Aryans originated in India rather that from outside...

More f*cked up BS. Caste system depends on occupation, education and skill, not your skin color. Open your eyes and go to South India or Sri Lanka. There are dark skinned Brahmins and there are fair skinned Shrudas and Dalits. I myself am pretty fair skinned, more than an average Indian, but I'm just a Vaishya, not a proud Kstriya or Brahmin...
And about Brahmins and Gurus going to Europe and not Africa, I have no idea what you're saying, but we have a very big number of Hindus in Africa. countries like Kenya and South Africa are where most of the Indian poulation is found and they have temples and everything...

Once again, BS. As I said earlier ther are very dark skinned Brahmins and light skinned Shrudas and Dalits. The caste system is rooted into Indus Valley civilization, and Aryans adopted this rather than create it. And about not helping the one who is poor or suffering, thats completely wrong. Charity is one of the 4 foundations of our Dharma, and no matter how evil one is, you should help him/her in time of need. And according to the REAL caste system, no one is born a dalit, yoiu become one depending on your actions.

That is the stupidest BS I've ever seen. I can understand the words above Social Evils as misinterpretation, but this is just pure hate and ignorance. The satee came about after islamic advent, when horney Muslim men defied their own religion and took possesion of widows as slaves. Our women would rather burn themselves rather than be sex slaves. And where the f*ck did you get your information on child abuse? That is nothing related to hinduism, thats sounds more like Paki islam to me. Sacrifice of people is absolutely forbidden in Dharma, so stop talking BS. People witness sexual images on our temple walls, thats perfectlt alright in our culture. India was never a conservative mad people land, we were liberal and pure at the same time. I have no idea where you got the scene of drinking urine and smearing dung, but its actually used in modern medicie as well. The Kali cult was primarily targetting Muslims (and other invaders), so it should be legalized....

l. How can we provide a sufficient basis for meaning, significance, justice, morals, truth and beauty? Hinduism cannot provide a philosophic basis for any of these things.
If I had $1 for each time you wrote BS, I'd be the world's first trillionare...
I'll try to answer all your questions above:
1) How do you explain Hindu trinity, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva? Brahma created the Universe, Vishu preserves Brahma's eternal creation, and Shiva is the destroyer of hate, ignorance, and evil from the Universe.
2) Hinduism has and always will solve the problems of One and Many. The morals it teaches you, the education it gives you, its flexibilty, and its adaptibilty to change has made it THE greatest religion for an adharent.
3) Monotheism isn't a common practice in Hinduism, but there is the idea of "Shakti" the infinite force that is everything and everywhere. It requires you to respect and understand your enviornment, and reflect upon yourself to gain knowledge and pave the way to enlightenment. This helps you conquer your mind and develop as a human being. This isn't the only thing about Hinduism though, and this makes more sense than praying 500,000 times a day to get enlightenment...
4) Yes we have many gods. We have 3 supreme gods. That is our proud religion that has stood the test of time, and passed with flying colors. We dont actually worship animals such as cow, elephant, snake etc; we just have ceremonies to HONOUR them as we consider them to be holy animals.
5)a. Its not Maya, its all REAL. The heavens are real, the underworld(hell), the gods are real. It all exists because it is a test of our souls on path to enlightenment and to be reunited with god in heaven. You will be reincarnted many times to pass this test.
b. The author or you are just confusing yourself. The universe was created by Brahma and it remains eternal. Modern sciences are theories, not proven facts...
c. Hinduism did not develop sciences?? WTF have you been smoking? Science is the very essence of Dharmic faiths. Vedas, Puranas, even the Gita encourage education and persuit of the unknown. Can I get some of the crack you smoke?
d. Evil is anything that stands against what Dharma says. like a person who kills someone is evil, the demons are evil. Evil is anyone who refuses the 4 parts of Dharme - Truth, Purity, Compassion, and Charity.
e. Evil is born out of mankind or it develops on its own (like evil spirits). Evil is born out of disbelief, hate, jelousy, ignorance etc. All these factors were created by Brahma when he created the Universe, we believe in an equality or a balance in the Universe between good and bad.
f. Humans are a creature like all other creatures. They all have a soul or "aatma". This soul can be incarnated into any creature. The human form is the most intelligent and is effectively called "man".
g. "Man" is different from a rock because the rock is a non living object, thus has no soul. Man does have a soul. To be incarnated into human form, the soul (whatever its past incarnaton) must have done good, to become the man he/she is.
h. "Man" has his/her own brain. Man thinks of evil when he feels hate, jelousy or any other emotions that will drive him to do and become evil. Man can also become evil when he is corrupted, there are lots of reasons why man can become evil.
i. Sin would be in your Karma. "Paap" as its called is anything to you do to hurt someone, in any way. It has to be intentional for it to be sinful. There are other forms of sinful acts, but I wont get into them.
j. Actually, there is forgiveness for sins. "Prayaschit" involves clensing off all evils from you and prayers. This has to be done with intent for it to be counted.
k. Man is the most intelligent creature created. It is his natural tendency to look for answers to the "unknown". Every question has an answer, getting to the answer may be hard.
l. Its all about belief my man. Muhammad cannot prove the existance of Allah, but you do believe in Allah right? Same way, we believe in our gods.

This is just your hate for India and the Hindu religion and people that makes you ignorant of facts. All religions have good and bad. Indian society was one of the very first to make democracies. The Panchayat system is also well known to Pakistan. You say all this because you're judging Hinduism from the point of view of a monotheist religion. It may not make sense to you but it does to 900 million people around the world.
