Well, I just wonder how the Westerners thinking about Fidel Castro. In my opinion, he is really a hero, a freedom fighter, a patriot. He is my idol. With great charisma skill, heart of iron, he is worth enough for me to become an idol. But, how do you think about him? Just tell the truth.

He's a dictator, how would you feel about living under a dictatorship.
Where one person tells millions what they can have, how they live, and what they can and can not do.
He is an *** **** mother ****ing piece of **** communist bastard!.....Yea that sums it up.
Cuba is over 90% Catholics and he does not even let them celebrate Christmas!,Any one caught celebrating it will be arrested and tortured!,He even wined about the US embassy having Christmas decorations.
He is an *** ****!

They mean, “Come and get them!” They live on today as the most notable quote in military history. And so began the classic example of courage and valor in its dismissal of overwhelming superiority of numbers, wherein the heart and spirit of brave men overcame insuperable odds. Today, there lies a plaque dedicated to these heroes all at the site. It reads: “Go tell the Spartans, travelers passing by, that here, obedient to their laws we lie.”

Greeks are born not manufactured, we do not chose we are chosen, those who understand need no explanation, those who don't, don't matter...
Castro has his fault but the man deserves great respect. As a dictator he was not very cruel but mostly good to his people. Before Castro there was an american control puppet known as Batista in control of Cuba. Cuba was literally the whore house of america with people suffering from chronic malnutrition much like countries like colombia is today.
Now why I admire him, with little he has created many great institutions far more superior than any other in latin american countries and some as good as european ones.
For instance Cuba is one of the world leader in medicine, they've made many ground breaking discoveries in the field of microbiology (many people don't know that). cuban has very advance medical institutions some as good as european countries, many europeans come to cuba for cheap treatment. Cuba has so many doctors that they are now traded for oil.
no famine, people are well fed, reasonable life style if you are not creedy, good environmental policy. Above all have anyone noticed how amasing cubans athletes are, with records number of medals per capita.
The model need to be studied, in a world where rat races are being spreading devouring the resources and polluting the earth at amasing rate thsi country need to be study for future reference. How can you create such decent model with so little.
of course it is not perfect, human rights violations, but certainly not as bad as the US.
-------------------------------------------- We were not given dominion over the earth; our forebears earned it in their long, nightmarish struggle against creatures far stronger, swifter, and better armed than ourselves, when the terror of being ripped apart and devoured was never further away than the darkness beyond the campfire's warmth. -Darwin
"Castro is a political strongman and has done much for the people of Cuba."
Like what? Per capita income was higher under Batista (no model citizen) than it is under Castro. He's done NADA for the Cuban people, except to bore them with 3 hour speeches everytime the mood takes him. The forward thinking citizens of Cuba can't wait until Fidel dies and they can open dialogue with the US.
Living in Miami, I rarely get to voice my opinions about this matter, but I agree he gets way too much flak than what he deserves. I don't know economically, but that man has given Cuba back its national spine from being an American puppet.
But he's gonna die soon. And Gcap, its not true that he has banned Christmas, that's just bull they circulate in Miami's Cuban community just to demonize the guy. If the Pope is allowed to visit Cuba, I think Christmas is allowed. His rule has seen the complete integration of the races in Cuba. Cuba has been black majority for a while now.
Go there and not to the resorts and you'll see how nice it is
Wow. Power going off about every other day during afternoon heat for 5 hours in summer - even in the airport. The toilets don't flush at the airport. Government not paying on time. The people I talked to don't really say too much either way about castro, they just want money in their pocket like everyone else.
And yes Christmas is allowed though most of the Churches in Habana I saw are not even in use and have graffiti such as "KoRn" written on them.
I mean of all the things to write
The people are pleasent & warm though. No racial discrimination is a very good aspect, but I've seen that in other latin american countires like columbia & venezuala.
Just my 2 cents
I agree with POLIZEI and more:He slaved the Cuban people and he own is an Island prisioner with the difference he can got a save-conduct passaport and licence for to go out of the jail prision island in times in times.Resume:He is a retarded with a communism pass dream living in a jail where he got others for to stay forced with him,but he can get out every time he want. The democrac of only one man, great no!?

Gcap, you are aware that your hero Che was very close to Fidel?
As for me, I don't see him as a hero, but he isn't the evil dictator many of you think of him. Cuba's literacy rate today stands at 98% (right around that of the United States). In the last days of Batista's reign, it stood at under 50%. Also, infant mortality rate is lower in Cuba than in the United States, and doctors per capita is identical to that of the U.S.
He should, however, hold LEGITIMATE elections. Cuba wasn't ready in 1959, but that cannot be said today.

Castro is a disaster for Cuba. He's a throwback revolutionary that never outgrew the 1950's. Whatever good ideas he had in the beginning, he's become a dicator for life ever since then. I mean, walking around in his greek fatigues with his gut hanging out over the belt! For Gods sake, man, GROW UP. He used to be considered a threat in the US, now everybody considers him a joke. Most Cubans secretly can't wait until he dies.
When he dies, Raul will take power. Raul is an incompetent moron.

He may be Communist but he isn't all bad. Not thinking on a global scale but on a local one, he's done alot for Cubans, their health system and education system is 100% free and second to none in quality.
But then again, he is a dictator and i am sure opposition gets crushed in maaany different ways...
Colonel Reza Khan was the Shah of Iran from 1921 to 1942. He ruled with an iron fist, crushing the Tudeh and National Front under his feet. However, he brought Iran into the 20th century. The road system in Iran has remained virtually unchanged since his rule.
