All right! The first thread I've read regarding the Chinese medieval military. Nice pics bro!
It's sad I know more about Greko-Roman military than Chinese military.

Is it right to say Chinese military were more in the area of seige?
In those siege pictures, except the Mongolian ones who were the Chinese fighting? It seems like Chinese are fighting against the Chinese.

amazing,I even found the portrait of general yuan,I hope that one day I can visit his tomb at beijing.I watached a TV serials for him, when I still was a kid.
@huaxiachang, Yuan Chong Huan was a great general, but I alway thought that he was too proud. The emperor had him executed because of his hubris, always so sure of himself and nearly lost the capital.

A short version. Yuan Chong Huan was instated as the commander of all Ming forces along the Great Wall (essentially commanding the elite and best equipped troops) during the last few years before Manchu broke through. He was credited with neutralizing the Manchu threat, retaking lost territory, and generally making the Manchu army s*** in their pants. Only problem is he fell to enuich spreading false rumors about his loyalty (as is the case with a lot of loyal Chinese generals, lol). Only a fews years after taking his post, he was executed for being a traitor after one encounter where the Manchu managed to outmanuver him and directly threaten the capital.
He was a brilliant general, but I wouldn't rank him as one of the best. For one, he was too confident, thinking that the emperor didn't know better and didn't report to the emperor on major encounters. Second, he trusted and promoted Wu Sang Gui, and we know what became of that traitor. Third, he didn't really go on the offensive against the Manchu army (then again, this wasn't really his fault since they didn't even have enough food let alone money to pay the troops).

“Do you know any approxmate dates for the pictures you posted in your two threads? ”
his first post which includes the great wall and fir gun should be around 900 hundreds years ago(1131),the Song dynasty.at that time it was in the war with the north nomadoc enemy all the time. the second post should be the great Han dynasty about 2000 years ago, many famous generals as shown in his post.

Dont' mean break your heart, Yuan Chong Huan was not a general. He was a civil servant turned military general so he most likely wouldn't dress up like that.... lo1l1o1l11l11l
BTW, his tomb is at Long Tan Park in Beijing..... One of Jin Yong's novel is dedicated to his imaginative son "Bi Xue Jian"....l1o1l1o1l1ol1o1l
