Two corpses of American soldiers were discoverd during archeological searches near Bois Belleau (north eastern France) recently. Only one was identified: private Franck Luppo. Those two men were volunteers of the 1917-1918 American Expeditionnary Force and died during the battle for Belleau Woods (1-26 june 1918), participating in the allied victory.
They have been burried in the nearby American cemetary, where 2289 (now 2290) identified US soldiers rest alongside 250 (now 251) of their fellow troopers whose tombstone remain unnamed. A monument with the names of 1060 missing men (now 1058) is also in the cemetary.
