Let God save you, dear homeland
that stretches out in this ancient sea of heroes,
cradle of thought
that, born in Greece,
in this land flourished anew.
Erased from history,
we are once again flying your flags.
On the sacred towers of Gaeta
we write again the word: <<Dignity>>.
Soldier of the Volturno,
you that fell here,
noone for a hundred years
has engraved your name.
The children you never knew
will return honor to you.
Back from the past,
those who believe in us
this time will win.
Go ahead, drummer,
beat like you once did:
without luck
but not without courage.
Fate that betrayed us
now riunites us.
Back from the past
those who believe in us
this time will win.
Sorry, it is merely making a statement of the Greek civilization of Italy called Magna Graecia, which was superior to the one on the Greek mainland, and separate and different, really.
La Repubblica Ragusana - La quinta repubblica marittrima! Italia triumphs again! "When valour takes the field, short will the conflict be; Barbarian rage shall yield the palm to Italy. The vital spark remains, and Roman blood still warms Italians' veins."

You mean the same way Greek culture was superior to Roman culture in every way? There was no distinction between Greeks living in southern Italy, Sicily, mainland Greece, Asia Minor, or Egypt. All these people composed the Hellenic culture throughout the Mediterannean and from a cultural standpoint were light years ahead of the Romans.
In fact, if Greek culture, language, and civilization spread in Europe instead of Roman the world would be a better place today.
How ridiculous - you do realize if it wasn't FOR the Roman Empire, your Greek culture would have disappeared and evidence wouldn't have remained?
You should thank the ROMAN EMPIRE for preserving Greek culture, because essentially, that is what happened. Most classical buildings in modern Greece are in fact reparations and construction works from the Roman Empire.
Indeed - Southern Italy has more Greek buildings than all of Greece does!
Italy is even more Greek than Greece itself is!
But of course, what would the Romans know? I mean, after all, the Roman Empire is simply one of the most admired and known civilizations in the world, and its presence is felt every day throughout the world.
But of course, we can thank the Greeks for pederasty!

Beleive me, Hitler knew what he wanted to jsutify and he would have found it anywhere. It was not Greek culture which was civilized and enlightened that created the Third Reich. The third reich merely chose a respected culture, warped it and used it to justify their barbarous ways.
If anything, the Romans conducted brutality in a way the Greeks never imagined. See The Colliseum, crucifixtion.

The Roman Empire did pass on and appreciate Greek culture and thought. The Romans had deep admiration for the Greeks, especially emperors like Hadrian and Marcus Aurelius. The Romans preserved the Greek East that was created by Alexander the Great and persisted into the Byzantine Empire. Other than language, Rome was a continuation of Greek culture (and the language part was only in the West). To say Greek culture would have dissappeared is too strong a statement to make because int he power vacuum another Greek state may have arisen...possibly in Asia Minor. I doubt Carthage would have done anything to destroy Greek culture. At that time less developed cultures were easily influenced by it. But considering what happened, Rome was good for Greek culture and defended it well in the East against Parthia. Unfoprtunately however, when Roman armies collapsed, Greece was vulnerable because you no longer had the Greek citizen armies in all the city states.

Most classical buildings in Greece are not Roman but yes there are a lot in Athens and Thessaloniki thanks mostly to Hadrian in Athens and Galerius in Thessaloniki. The Theater of Herod Atticus, the completion of the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian Arch, Roman forum, and Byzantine works in Thessaloniki and some others, but the Parthenon, temple of Hephaistus (best preserved temple in all Greece), Temple at Sounion, vergina grave of Philip, Delphi, Epidaurus, Olympia, Mycenae, Knossos, Delos. I agree that South Italy has a lot of well preserved Greek monuments thanks to not being as close to the psycho Christianity of Constantinople. Also, mainland ancient Greece was never that rich, just smart and resourceful. Ultimately the south Italian cities did not have Turks to store arms in their temples so they could be blown up by Venetians, were not hit as hard by fundamental Christians of Byzantium, did not resist invasion as much.
Indeed - Southern Italy has more Greek buildings than all of Greece does!

To sayit has more Greek buildings than the modern nation of Greece is flat out not true. To say all of Italy is more GReek is not true either. South Italy and Sicily have had non Greeks in their midst for centuries....eg. Sicils, Carthaginians, Samnites, Arab conquest, Norman conquest, slaves. To say they are more Greek is stupid...to say they are just as Greek is accurate.
But of course, what would the Romans know? I mean, after all, the Roman Empire is simply one of the most admired and known civilizations in the world, and its presence is felt every day throughout the world.
Yes the Romans were good torch bearers of Greek culture. Their engineering, building and military prowess suited them well for the task. Unfortunately we do not see as much of it in the Greek East anymore because of Islam which supplanted it.
"But of course, we can thank the Greeks for pederasty!"
Typical ignorant comment. You are basically like Michael Richards a comic here in the USA who resorted to racist comments when he was heckled because he wasn't brilliant enough to come up with a smarter response. Even if the Greeks introduced a structure to it or were the first to write about it, the gay non-Greeks were already doing it unofficially.
