Found this children drawing from German children during WW2. Found them quite fascinating ... especially the contrast

Interesting thread, shows that children where not a whole lot different back then.

Thank you for posting.

Yeah, thanks for posting this.

It seems eerie to tell you the truth. Some of the images had me wondering however. I think I recognize the E-boat drawing from a painting of an E-boat from the war that I saw years ago. Maybe the kid saw the same picture 6-1/2 decades ago. Ditto with that picture of the guy with the Captain's hat, beard and binoculars - I think I saw a similar image of a U-boat commander from the war - if I'm recalling correctly, the guy who commanded the U-boat that sunk the Royal Oak.

I also found it strange that German kids would draw Russian planes in combat. I'm wondering if those pictures may have taken place before Barbarossa; perhaps during the Finnish war?

And that image of the chap with the umbrella and that pompous outfit, wearing ships on his feet, walking on the water, with planes flying around him. He reminded me of Goering, but I honestly have no idea what the hell the kid was thinking when he drew it, or what he was trying to depict. It's all so surreal.

Do you have any back story to these images? Where did you find them?

Regards.

I'm going to guess that the sea lord was probably inspired by some propaganda poster that he saw, it is exactly the kind of thing that they liked to portray.

Fascinating set of pictures.

Thanks very much for putting them up.

Do you have the original URL?

My friend is an art teacher and she has a special interest in children's art. I'd like to send her the link.

Many thanks.

It would be interesting to give this pics to a child psychologist for better interpreting the many layers latent in each drawing.
