Your country's football rivalries

Since the world cup is in full force I thought to include another Football thread featuring our nations main rivals. For Brazil I can really only include Argentina, theirs no other country that comes close, a good deal of top nations have more than one rival but Argentina is probably Brazil's top one. We also have smaller ones with Italy and Germany but no where as close as to the Argentines. But its not really a rivalry of hate, compared to the Argentine-English both nations have a level of respect for one another. So please post your nations greatest rivals!

Without question, Brazil.

We must have revenge over 1994!

And 1970 didn't we beat you in finals? Either way I believe we were beaten by you guys in 1982, so that in turn was our revenge when we won in 94.

Well, Italy and Brazil, for the four times they've played eachother in the world cup, two victories went to Brazil, and two to Italy. So it's really down to the wire. Now, concerning 1970, it's not the same as 1994, where it was by one missed penalty kicked that Brazil won.

Brazil is the only national soccer team that I actually truly fear.

3. Germany
4. Netherlands

LOL damn marradona was good, Brazil was unlucky we hit the post twice in that game!

@Azzurri true 94 world cup was probably the closest finals in the history of the tournament. But the team you lost to in 1970 was arguable the best Brazil team to grace a soccer pitch, the team of 94 wasn' that great, played far to defensively.

I totally agree, Italy's team simply had no chance against the 1970 Brazil, just like vice-verse is true about 1982.

The 1994 Italian team did have a powerful offensive, but it rarely used it, it's extremely disappointing.

Italy naturally has a great defense, and a potentially powerful offensive, it's that past coaches have done nothing to promote it. Dino Zoff was a goalkeeper, so obviously the 1994 team would be more defense-oriented. And when Trappatoni came to power, dear God, he made the country relive the 1966 disaster against North Korea.

This time, I'm optomistic. Since I'm going to Italy on holiday (and to check out colleges), it'd be so amazing to have Italy win the Cup while being there....

ENGLAND

Serious rivalry;

Germany
Argentina

Other;

Scotland, but they are rubbish and arent in the same league as the previous two.
Australia, not specific to football, but England-Australia are just intense rivals in all sports.

Nero - I dont agree with the USA though. The only real rivalry I ever see between the English and the US is in Boxing and Athletics. Our real rivals in football atleast have to have a decent pedegree and long history.

Yeah for England it is just Argentina (hand of God) and penalties 1998. That demon has since been banished with our 3-2 win late last year. The German effect (penalties numerous times!) was ridden finally in 2001 i think with our 5-1 world cup qualifier. No demons left (i hope) though Portugal cursed us recently with our QF Euro penalty knock out.

Hmm...

England - more of a sports thing than a football thing, but still a huge rivalry (and we love to throw the 3-1 scoreline in their face, and I'm sure they would love to play us again to put us in our place )

New Zealand - again a general sports thing, but up until this year when we moved to the AFC, NZ provided the only semi-decent contests for us in the OFC

Uruguay - a recent thing, and probably won't meet again for a long time, but they beat us in 02 qualifiers, but we got our revenge in a penalty shoot out to seal our spot in Germany 06.

After last night, and with our move into Asia (where we are currently the 5th ranked asian nation) I would not be surprised if a rivalry grew between Japan and Australia. So watch this space in the years to come as Australia moves into Asia.

China:

Does not really have rivalries.

We will dominate the Asian soccer soon, except the Aussies might be our real ravalry

Koreans are just for the time being a bit nasty, in near future we will crush them like we always colonize them in history

AHAHAHA...*ahem*... AHAHAHAHAHA.

Korea has a 26 consecutive game unbeaten streak going against China since 1978, (15 wins 11 ties 0 losses in favor of Korea) and you're talking about a crushing? LOL. People have been gushing about the potential of Chinese soccer for many years, now we know it's all hype they've barely improved, and are still yet to pick up their first victory against Korea.

We'll carry Asian football into the new century, you just worry about ending your embarassing 26 game winless streak against Korea.

Gong Han Zhen will prevail as long as your players, media, and fans keep playing with a chip on their shoulder. First deal with your massive Chinese inferiority complex, then you can start thinking about actually winning.

I do not think Korean team will win against Chinese team easly in the future ever.
They already on the level that play aaginst Korean team equally.

During AFC Asian cup and WC regional qualifications ,they already showed better performances than Korean team.

Your poor trolling comment always sucks and never will be interesting.

Don't insult other nations if you want to be respected.
Chinese forumers here obviously have more cards to insult Korea than you have to insult China.

That could be true, but not when it comes to football If they try to insult us with anything off-topic, that'll only shows how insecure they are.

It's damn so funny to see a Korean talking about inferior complex, holly shiits we all know you Koreans especially the S.Koreans have the biggest inferiority complex problem in Asia, you have been bitches of us and others for too long time and you are still a bitch of Americans.

That aside, I don't see any association of "inferiority" from England their team has not won from Sweden since 1968 LOL

Asian soccer/football is still mediocre NOW, heck in 2002, the two home teams got a little boost, it's a tradition that home teams does well. It's funny though that Mantis talk about inferiority complex, this guy is just as bad as those people in stormfront with their aryan invation theory crap.

Why can't you see that?

And I really do not agree to your view ,South Korean team will play difficult game with them in coming future IMO.

LMFAO.

And here comes HBN to exactly prove my point about him lol, could you be ANY easier?

It's damn so funny to see a Korean talking about inferior complex, holly shiits we all know you Koreans especially the S.Koreans have the biggest inferiority complex problem in Asia, you have been bitches of us and others for too long time and you are still a bitch of Americans.

No, calling China a punching bag in football (which they are) is not being insecure. Bringing up irrelevant points about history just to make yourself feel better about your suckage in football IS being insecure

That aside, I don't see any association of "inferiority" from England their team has not won from Sweden since 1968 LOL

Of course not. You don't see any Englishman going "Oh well, at least so and so years ago, we had a bigger empire than you did" to deflect the focus away from their struggles against Sweden in football. That's an excuse reserved only for the insecure, people like you HBN

You insulted them first by calling their team as 'punching bag'
Why can't you see that?

A punching bag is what they are. 26 consecurive games undefeated, I don't have know what other words there are for that. And you actually think I was trying insult him by saying punching bag? come on, that is so minor, so grade-school, it took a lot of restraint to not to actually flame by calling them our b!tches lmao, but that's what HBN called us in response, he's overreacting like his usual self.

When was the last time China vs S.Korea?

I remember it was last year:
China vs S.Korea 1:1
In Korea, and Chinese side 8 men against 11 S.Koreans, NO?

11 S.Koreans plus your home tudd supporters can not win from 8 Chinese players, and you have face to talk about punching bag LOL
