Sm-2?
where do you use the SM-2?

The only ship arround is the OHP 6 it uses the SM-1.

But anyway, yes, SMs (Standart Missiles) can be used against land & sea targets

BTW: the SM-1 is much better when firing at a target between several neutral ones (much more acurated)

Well, it actualy has been some time since the last time I played

In what mission are you, the on where you got to kill like 6-8 Boats, while leaving port or the one where they hide behind some Islands?

Harpoons are good against bigger units, since they got bigger warheads & need no Ilumination after firing

SM-1 RIM-66 / RIM-67 Standard Missile
-------------------------------------

Standard Missile-1 (SM-1) entered production in 1967, and is still operational with many international navies. In preparation for the U.S. Navy’s withdrawal of its SM-1 compatible ships, support transitioned to Raytheon. Raytheon led a team of companies which provide users with continued access to spares and repair services for the foreseeable future.

Standard-1 (SM-1) and Standard-2 (SM-2), medium-range (MR), and extended-range (ER) missiles have a cylindrical airframe. The airframe tapers into a radome, four fixed dorsal fins, and four independently movable steering control surfaces.

Standard-1 (RIM-66) is a medium-range (MR), surface-launched missile employing passive or semiactive homing. It is propelled by an integral dual-thrust rocket motor. The SM-1 MR is installed on FFG-, DDG-, CG-, and CGN-class ships equipped with Aegis and a Tartar combat system.

Standard-1 (RIM-67) is an extended-range (ER), surface-launched missile employing passive/ semiactive homing or midcourse command guidance. It is propelled by a detachable rocket booster and an integral sustainer rocket motor. SM-1 ER is installed on CGN-, CG-, and DDG-37- class ships equipped with Terrier combat systems.

RIM-156 SM-2 Block IVA Navy Area Defense (NAD)
-----------------------------------------------
"Standard Missile-2 Block IVA interceptors deployed aboard Aegis ships. The capability provided by this system has the advantage of being able to be brought into theater quickly without having to put forces on land. The Standard family of missiles is one of the most reliable in the Navy's inventory. A weapon which can be used against missiles, aircraft, and ships, it first came into the fleet more than two decades ago, replacing the Terrier and Tartar. On January 24, 1997, the Navy successfully demonstrated a Theater Ballistic Missile Defense capability when a ballistic missile target was shot from the sky for the first time using a new version of the Standard missile family.

The SM-2 Block IVA utilizes a side-mounted imaging infrared seeker to detect and track incoming ballistic missiles and guide to a lethal intercept over a 100-kilomter-by-50- kilometer area, while retaining previous SM-2 Block IV capabilities."

Burkon I ve also played the game but I must say Jane's Fleet Comm. is much better game,If u did not try that you can download the CD's by Torrent

yeah, Harpoon is cool too, but it just lacks the nice 3d images, like when a Ship gets hit or some nice dogfights between 2 fighters with macine gun,...

If they would get 3D ad on it would rock supremly

"lack of a market if you can belive it"

Specially in Military simulation market it sucks since 2000,no valuable product provided, just maybe Lock On and IL-2 series but you cant even compare Lock on with Falcon 4.0 never.

Here are a few numbers:

Total US sales through 'till september 2005

FS 2004-------------677300 units (28.4 million dollars) July 2003 release
Silent Hunter III---57500 units (2.2 million) March 2005
LoMAC---------------51000 units (1.5 million) November 2003
Pacific Fighters----41100 units (1.5 million) October 2004
Wings over Viet-----29300 units (823.3 thousand) October 2004
Falcon 4.0 AA-------19500 units (574.4 thousand) June 2005

It sucks that the genre that originally got me into PC gaming (F-117 was probably the first PC game I really played) has spiralled down so low. As a comparison one can look up the numbers on the Sims franchise or just sneak a peak at WoW's success.

Not that the Simulation market has completely died, it's just alot slower, and a whole lot specialised, Steel Beasts 2 will probably only be available for download and at somewhere in the 100+$ range.

I m also flying in NWA and THY with FS2004( PDGM 737 add on.)

Pacific Fighters is just another expansion pack of IL-2,good but not perfect.well,I choose 688 rather than Silent Hunter III,but of course SHIII reflecting WWII era.Wings over Viet is totally a crap both realism,campaign,graphics...etc,still flying with Jane's USAF for fun

In the new version of Falcon 4.0 the AA,not so much changes that Lead Pursuit designated. But it rules the sky with FS and X-plane thats certain. We re currently flying Falcon 4.0 AA(1.07) in our virtual squadron.

***IF ANYBODY INTERESTED IN FALCON 4.0 JUST EMAIL I CAN ALSO PROVIDE TRAINING FROM BEGINING ,JUST LET ME KNOW,WE CAN COVER THE LESSONS VIA TS AND HAMACHI,AND ITS REALLY GREAT TO FLY WITH YOUR BUDDIES IN THE VIRTUAL SKIES.

Re: Dangerous Waters

the decline is probably due to the growth in other gameing, RTS and FPS specificly

PC gameing used to be mostly militry simulation and now its running out, thats why i am stck playing 9 and 10 year old games because there there is nothing new comeing out

Re: Dangerous Waters

Lee, check out the top ten PC sellers for the last week of May (May 28 to June 3):

1: WoW
2: HL2: Ep.1
3: Sims 2
4: Heroes of Might & Magic V
5: Oblivion
6: Sims 2: Open for Business
7: Sims 2: Family Fun Stuff
8: Guil Wars Factions
9: BF2
10: Heroes of Might & Magic V: Limited Edition

It really pisses me off that Sims 2 has kept in the top ten for almost 2 years and most of it's ancilliary products do just as well. IMO the only games that really deserve to be anywhere on that list are probably WoW (it's become one hell of a phenomenon), Oblivion, and maybe Heroes V. As for HL2 Ep.1, at 4 hours worth of gameplay I don't see the justification for forking up 20 bucks.
