"Andriy Shevchenko has said that restoring Ukrainian fans' pride and belief in the national team represented the most significant of the many plus points to emerge from this afternoon's resounding 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia.
The Chelsea striker, who capped an excellent individual performance by scoring one goal and unselfishly laying on another, was still on a high when he spoke to FIFAworldcup.com about a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for a team which only five days ago was on the receiving end of an identical scoreline against Spain. "
Quote:LONDON, May 31 (Reuters) - Chelsea have signed Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko from AC Milan for a club record fee.
"I am here for the challenge and the excitement of playing in the Premier League," the 29-year-old told Chelsea's official website after agreeing a four-year contract on Wednesday.
"I am going from one big club to another and joining a team of champions."
The precise fee was not disclosed but Shevchenko said it was the ideal moment to join the English champions.
"I think I have arrived here at the perfect time," he said. "The Champions League has to be a realistic target for next season but it is not just about the Champions League.
"Chelsea are going for their third Premiership as well and I like the club's mentality of wanting to win every game they play."
Shevchenko announced last week that he was leaving the Italian club for family reasons.
According to media reports, his American wife Kristen asked her husband to move to London as she would prefer their son Jordan to grow up in an English-speaking country.
The capture of the 29-year-old Ukraine captain is Chelsea's second coup of the close season, after the arrival of Germany skipper Michael Ballack on a free transfer from Bayern Munich.

You really think sheva is the number one striker in the world?

Yes, Sheva is in Chelsea now, funny though, he wasn't their first choice. They had their sights on Henry all winter until he signed an extension with Arsenal throught 2010. They offered $105 million for Ronaldinho who of course is not for sale, and was prepared to pay a similar sum for Henry. So they lowered their standards a bit and landed Ballack and Sheva instead lmao. They also landed Kalou and Mikel, and offered Roberto Carlos a $30 million contract. Seeing how unhappy he is with struggling Real, he is almost certain to take this as no other club can match Chelski's offer.
I seriously doubt that, shevchenko is the best striker in the world bar none.We will see this in england next year.Henry is so overated its not funny.Hes been to 3 world cups, played so many games..yet has 1 goal to show for it.His european championship record is so how.. even worse. He scores hatricks against poor opposition and the english media goes crazy.Very overated player.
As for ronaldinho, overall, the best player in the world..but the premiership is not la liga.If he tried his funny ****, week in week ,out hes gonna get crippled. No way a 155 pound bloke like him could be a great success in England, its just not his game.He was right to stay in spain.
Shevchenko and ballack will be very sucessful in england, sheva more tho,as ballack might struggle at first.
No way dude, Henry is way better than Shevchenko by far! Just not in a Les Bleus uniform, but we're talking club football here so that's irrelevant. He hasn't done too bad in CL though, Sheva may have the all-time record, but Henry still ranks a respectable 7th in all-time career CL goals. Their abilities as a striker are about even, both have top-class finishing, but Henry can do pretty much EVERYTHING, he can take free kicks, penalties, and he can set up goals like no other striker in the world, Sheva's abilities are more limited.
'No way dude, Henry is way better than Shevchenko by far!'
by far,...sigh
'Just not in a Les Bleus uniform, but we're talking club football here so that's irrelevant. He hasn't done too bad in CL though,
Its totally relevant!!!,shevchenko outscores henry at EVERY level,CL,league, international. The international game is how you measure how good a player really is.Henry struggles BIG TIME.He could score 5 goals at this world cup and he'd still have an abysmal record.Besides the premiershiptotally suits henrys style, thats why he was a flop in italy....

Good point joon!!!

Free kicks/penalties? this is exactly what sheva does. The difefrence is henry is greedy and he likes to take corners, which is riduculus. He should be in the box,not taking them,so he takes corners..big wow.I suggest you take a look at shevas assists through the seasons aswell, hes got loads, just as many as henry last season irrc. How else does pippo inzaghi score!! lol
Shevchenko is without doubt the better striker/goalscorer/forward.Hnery might be a better allround player, just like ronaldinho is,but thats not what i said.As strikers come,no one can match shevchenko.
shevchenko is definetly over rated if you think hes the best striker in the world.
