Italy somehow drew a ridiculously easy route to the semis. Their two post-group stage opponents have been Australia and Ukraine, as opposed to Mexico and Germany, Sweden and Argentina, and Spain and Brazil! Poor France, they really put themselves behind the 8-ball by not winning their group.

On paper Argentina is stronger, based on performance in this tournament, they are about equal with Germany having an extra bonus due to the home crowd.
I'm looking forward to a tense, intensive and cracking game that could go either way. I hope we will be the lucky side at the end.
Btw. a pity that these two teams face off now. Other than Germany out of these 8, I would prefer the Argentinians to win it.

Actually you get it wrong. France put herself in excellent position by coming second. If you check France's football history, you'll notice that France usually beat the top teams but draw a lot against the weaker. The reason is weaker succumb early to French attacking pressure and close the game, whereas strong team play open which favours French style of play. That's why Brazil, Germany, England, Spain, Italy etc have lost all their matches against France in 6 years.
I would rather see France playing Brazil than Ukraine.

Revenge is serioulsy on everybodies mind, I think Brazil will give its best performance, alot of players have alot to prove against France. That match during 98 wasn't a proper game, France had already won it before we even got on the pitch.

before: 2 x in WC semifinal, European cup in 92 (IIRC)
after: European cup in 2000 (even more difficult than the WC IMO)
And of course all french player are all champion of Italy, Spain, England, etc... with the most prestigious clubs of Europe.
Anyway, Brasilians make in their pants and they are right.

There's 3 finals to win. Loosing this one or loosing the last one doesn't change anything.

France won the UEFA Euro 2000, 2-1 against Italia! Plus, as it's stated above, they trashed Brazil in the Confederations Cup.

Man, did u see when the Argentinian Player was fouled by the German in the penalty area, the Ref gave the Argentinian the yellow Card? WTF was that? The yellow card should've been given to the German player for fouling and Argentina should've gotten a penalty. This game was stolen from Argentina due to Ref error.

Italia walked over Ukraina, 3-0. I expected at least a goal from the Ukrainians, non the less they played very well, having managed to reach this stage of the tournament.

Very good job Italia. Congratulatisons for the place in semifinal.
The team is pretty good, the one to watch IMO.
But i wasn't impressed by Germany. Frankly, had Argentina continued to play after their first goal and they could have put 2 others. The best oportunity were their side.
I wonder if Germany is not overated finaly ... and they are the worst divers of this tournament.
But good for them to be in the last square, congrat'.

The ref also didnt see the foul at balack in the argens penalty area which should have been a penalty to.
So both sides mist one.
Very funny to see though how the team that said it would roll over germany behaves after the game....
And even after that crap they still say they were the better team.

Wow, the alcohol level is still high....
Btw. the equaliser was in the 80th, not in the 89th minute. It was a very tactical game, surely a bit boring for neutrals. We were perhaps the weaker technical team, but with all due respect, Argentina didn't create many chances either.
Amazing stability and coolness in the shoot out from the team. I^m proud
Now against Italy. Well, they are the team that we hate to play the most, but I'm sure the players are itching to revenge the 4-1 loss from March. It will be interesting. Anyway, we are among the best teams of the world again this is the most important thing.

a couple of things
we didn't play well at all, with a lot of determiniation and courage yes but not well right up untill the sending off. Why cant we play the way we did then when our backs are not to the wall?
in extra time we looked to be the team threataning to score not them
Ronaldo is a prick, when he goes back to old Trafford lets see what his reception is like, he delibratly wound up Roony the little **** and I hope the French or Brazilians make the bastard cry again.

Well, like yesterday a poor game for a neutral, but tense. Ricardo was amazing, Gerrard and Lampard letdowns. I am glad for Owen Hargreaves though. He proved his class to the critics.

France certainly have improved their form when it matters, taken a hint from Germany? Seriously they play excellent today. I'm not a big fan of french football, but admire Zidane. He's just so likeable. The best player of the last decade and he deserves a good end for his carreer IMO.

Portugal trashed England once again, nevertheless try to be objective. Mr. Rooney deserves to be kicked out of the english team for his vulgaric conduct of stepping on the Portuguese player (intentionaly), after managing to apply some of his rugby skills on the pitch.
Is this what you poeple call fairplay? At least Ronaldo scored some goals in this Mundial, while Rooney scored nothing at all.

I hope our team will not burry Portugal before the match like Spain did with France.
But if France play like today, it will be hard for Portugal. Seriously there is no better attack than the Brazillian have and they did a single shot (around 91 min) that Barthez had to stop.
Moreover some Portugese players are tired after today, and they did not a fantastic match againt a 10 men England in my opinion. They will have Deco back anyway.
A funny stuff about the french team was that before the match France vs Togo, around 25% of the fench answered "yes France will win the match", and then, same question with Brazil, that stat turns to 64% if i m correct. I found it funny to see that today.

I think the French will pull off a win over Portugal. But I'm highly doubtful of them winning the final, if Germany beats Italy. We have observed that French crowd is rather disappointingly few in numbers and quiet compared to other European crowds. Berlin will be the German turf, with 80% homecrowd occupying the stadium.
In order for the French to win, they'll need to deploy their old veterans early in the game, who are used to playing a field surrounded by the opposing crowd. This will hopely set a rhythm in the squad as the game progresses and lower the tensions of the younger players.

Ahwell,we played better and took the game to them with only 10 men for nearly 60 mins in total.Better team went out.But im quite proud that we took them to penalties.Well be a force to be reckoned with in euro 2008 for sure.New manager,new approach,same class players...and hopefully a lot less fuking injuries

Togo and Tunisia played excellent as well, but theit opponents played better and scored more goals. I want to see England playing at like they did back in 2002. In this Mundial, all their games were against weak teams, appart from Sweden (2-2) and Portugal (3-1 PSO)... I want to see this fantastic player, Owen back in the field and Rooney & Becks out asap... Both of them destroyed a nation's hopes yesterday, just to keep their celebrity title... pathetic.
