wow... so close... both two goals at like the last minutes...

Whatever happens, The US has white chicks, and China does not. -KingOfEngland commenting on speculation that China will surpass the US in 2025.
Is it not ironic that we get angry at our Gov't when the Gov't does nothing to protect us but we get MORE angry at our Gov't when they actually do something to protect us.

People say terrorists' objective is to reduce our freedoms... wrong. Terrorists couldn't care less about us having less freedoms or not, it makes no sense since us having less freedoms would make them more hard to strike. What they do care is that we live or die, not our rights.

People say that many people have died for the Freedoms we are having today and we shouldn't take them off, even for temporarily, but the question is, are you willing to die for your freedoms? If so, then we have won against terrorists because we are now willing to die, thus the terrorists' most potent weapon, terror, is immune to us.

But 58% vs. 42% is a huge difference isn't it? (58%-42%)/42% = 38.1%.

Anyway I am proud of that team, they are so young and full of prospects, Italy and Italian teams are simply the most difficult opponents for us.
Still, holding them for nearly 120 minutes through an enourmous team effort was amazing.

I very much look forward to the Euro 2008 when they have further matured.

Blah blah, All posted by trolls, but you and HBN shouldn't even be ehre poking fun, atleast we're in WC and made it this far, far beyond predictions and expectations.

So all in all this wont hurt our spirit, it's just going to keep getting better and better. who would've thought we'd make tit o finals? No one, while with Argentina and Brazil where all the bandwagon fans sit thought they'd breeze by. Sorry just the opposite.

Both Germany and Italy surprised me this wc, stepping away from their normally defensive play (especially Italy) and focussing more on the attack (more Germany). Also, Klinsmann did well in rejuvinating the team.

Italy did play better tonight, though; it was an open match, fun to watch but they did have the better chances.

Ah well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow, hoping France will kick Portugese ass.

This was a hell of a game for both sides, and I am so proud of Italy! They dominated the game in my opinion, and not because of any bad play by the Germans, they were incredible. The German goalie is awesome. Best game of the tournament I agree, I hope Klissman (spelling?) stays, he is cool and smart. Good luck in Euro 2008 Germany...and now I must root for France.

Soccer: rapture at Azzurri heroics
Deserved 0-2 win sparks wild celebrations
(ANSA) - Rome, July 5 - The media here have joined the Italian public in celebrating the Azzurri heroes who beat hosts Germany 2-0 Tuesday to reach the World Cup final for the sixth time .

Two superb goals by Fabio Grosso and Alessandro Del Piero in the last minutes of extra time gave the Italians a deserved victory and sparked off a long night of celebrations .

Thousands buzzed around city streets waving flags and honking the horns of scooters and cars, while pedestrians danced, embraced and sang the national anthem .

"Two great goals and Italy goes to the final," read the front-page headline of Corriere della Sera .

"We love you," beamed sport's daily Corriere dello Sport. "The Azzurri lions are in the final" .

During the night supporters in Bologna hung a tricolour flag on the city's famous statue of Neptune by Renaissance artist Giambologna .

In Rome fans celebrated by taking dips in some of the city's historic fountains .

People in Naples toasted the success in typical Neapolitan style with a blitz of fireworks. Many paid tribute to the style of the victory and the fact that the Azzurri produced the better football and took the game to a team playing in front of its home crowd .

"We won in an unexpected way, by attacking," wrote Mario Sconcerti in Corriere della Sera .

"The Germans did not expect such reactive, well-organized opponents. "They thought we would wait and counter-attack. Instead we were simply better - much better" .

Fans also took delight in taunting the parts of the German media which, during the pre-match polemics, suggested boycotting one of Italy's culinary delights, the pizza .

"Eat this pizza, eat this pizza," supporters chanted in the capital .

The result was just reward for the courage and positive approach of Azzurri coach Marcello Lippi, who had four strikers on the field by the end of the game - Del Piero, Alberto Gilardino, Francesco Totti and Vincenzo Iaquinta .

"We suffered, but the suffering makes us enjoy (the victory) even more," Lippi said .

"We are enormously satisfied. We deserved to win. We ran very few risks, they just had one shot on goal .

"These lads are truly special" .

Italy return to the World Cup final 12 years after losing to Brazil 3-2 on penalties in Pasadena, USA .

The Azzurri also lost the 1970 final to Pele's Brazil, 4-1 in Mexico .

But Italy won the three other finals they took part in: 3-1 against West Germany in 1982; 4-2 against Hungary in 1938; and 2-1 against Czechoslovakia in 1934 .

World Cup fever in papal household

http://www.ansa.it/main/notizie/awnplus/english/news/2006-07-05_1057618.html

Italian nuns beg to watch national team play Germany (ANSA) - Rome, July 5 - As World Cup fever grips Italy, nuns and papal aides are being infected by the nation's soccer passion .

Benedict XVI did not watch Tuesday night's semi-final between Italy and Germany but the lights stayed on in the papal apartments, said the German pope's personal secretary, Monsignor Georg Gaenswein .

The 79-year-old pontiff went to bed long before the end of the game, leaving Gaenswein, the four nuns who act as papal housekeepers and Benedict's other personal secretary glued to the TV .

"The pope told us to enjoy the match and asked to be informed of the result in the morning," Gaenswein said, adding that Benedict had then joked that he would know if Italy won anyway because of the noise from Roman streets. In fact, Roman fans celebrated noisily well into the small hours .

Msgr Gaeswein admitted that the spectators in the papal apartments had been divided. The four Italian nuns supported Italy, while Gaenswein himself rooted for his native Germany .

The pope's other private secretary, Msgr Mietek from the Ukraine, was initially unsure who to support. For the sake of fairness, he eventually decided to support Germany in the first half and Italy in the second .

Meanwhile, at a small convent in the central Italian town of Nocera Umbra, a group of cloistered nuns begged special permission to watch Tuesday night's match .

Under the convent's rules, the Franciscan sisters should have gone to bed after evening prayers at about 9pm. Instead they watched the match on the community's tiny TV set .

"I went to my room to rest but three sisters stayed up to see the game," confirmed 80-year-old Mother Bernadette, the head of the community, who allowed the rare exception to its austere rules. She said one of the younger nuns whispered to her later: "Mother, we won!" Mother Bernadette admitted that the result of the match - a 2-0 extra time win for Italy - had given her juniors great "joy", but she stressed that they would have been happy if Germany had won too .

They would have rejoiced "for our pope", she said .

Although her juniors may understand the offside rule and the intricacies of Italy's match strategy, it was clear that Mother Bernadette was not well versed in soccer matters or the German World Cup .

Perhaps because of the rowdy celebrations that local fans indulged in throughout the night, she was surprised to learn that Tuesday's match was only the semi final .

But on learning that this was the case, she said: "Well, whatever. If they want, they can watch the match on Sunday too" .

great game i agree.
Italy clearly deserverd to win.
eventhough i disagreed with the ref in a couple of his decisions.(I saw manymany dives from italian side)but italy was the better team.
Germany didnt manage to get the ball from its defence properly into the game to the offensive.
Properly frings would have been exct the player we needed.

But 1 thing made me very happy after the game.A few minutes after th end i walked around in munich and saw Italian AND German fans celebrating everywere together. No violence at all.The italians were very fair to our fans after the game.
made me happy.
