Poor Mesh, celebrating a tie that Iran would dream to get against Lithuania....

Anyway, yes, Italy played bad...Upsets happen.

The Azzurri were not in form at all, Serie A hasn't even begun yet, which was pivotal in my opinion. They were also unlucky, so many good chances ruined. We were also missing some good players, Toni, and Zambrotta, among others.

Kudos to Lithuania, they fought and drew. Donadoni will need to revise his strategy for the game against France on Wednesday.

Im satisfied with our result against Ireland, they are a very physical team that plays with a lot of heart and determination. On top of that they had a keeper who had probably one of the best days of his carreer.

That save from Klose's header in the first half was probably the best I've seen in a long time.

The goal was lucky, but considering the amount of chances we had it was deserved.

I'm also pleased that our 4th and 5th defenders in the centre did quite well. And of course Lahm was fantastic again, the best LB in the world now IMO.

You're not the only one... I had the evening planned: gf out to dinner with friends, snacks, wine, cigar for me and football... match sucked, cigar had a draw to make you hyperventilate (never touch a José Marti from Nicaragua)... ah well, at least the wine and snacks were good.

Oh c'mon they've used that excuse for past campaigns as well. Just put in tight security, make the game in Tel Aviv. I just feel bad for the team really, playing basically with little to no fans in an abandoned pitch.

And whats up with the venue? If they played the game in Belgium as opposed to the Netherlands you would have gotten more fans. Belgium as a very large Israeli community. Either way their in second place and I hope they can challenge the english team (whom i don't like).

yeap I hope we will put a good show against the more serious teams.
we are not at the level of the English team, but considering Maccabi Haifa had a 1-1 draw with Liverpool, I say we need to fight it out till the last second.

anyway, N. Ireland ended up beating Spain 3-2

Yep at least the player and stuff keep saying there was no revenge. They were just focusing on the fact that our team will have 5 points in advance on Italy after 2 match if they succeed. What they did.

That would have been nice if Italy show something because it s actually a shame for a world champion to "play" like that. And that it s not only regarding the match against France.

And btw, regarding yesterday, what made me laugh is those world champion reduce to act and fall for nothing to hope to do something

Re: Euro Qualis.

Well Vendest, regarding the game, Italy has been in a tough spot, while France has been unchanged.

With calciopoli, for example, the start of Serie A has been pushed back, it starts today, September 9th (from late August). That means that the Azzurri players have hardly played a game since the World Cup final itself, they're pretty much out of form. I mean, if you look at some play-by-plays of the game, the defensive players seemed to be walking while Henry or Sagnol held the ball near our goal area. Plus we have a new coach, Donadoni, who's still experimenting things out.

I'm expecting the matches against Ukraine and Georgia is where you will see the Azzurri team of before. Especially now that Italy has to make up the goal difference, they will be forced to continually be on the offensive anyway (which they should be able to do, after Ukraine's game against Georgia, they showed a terrible weakness on their defense). If we do a repeat of the WC against Ukraine, that should stir back our momentum.

If we do poorly on these two qualifiers in October, Donadoni will undoubtedly be sacked.

Re: Euro Qualis.

No sorry, the fact that the Italian championship didn t started don t explain all. For example, some player of the french team are playing in Italy and, even i don t really well the italian team, i m pretty sure some are playing in Spain or in UK. That lack of play is the same for all the player actually.
Moreover, just to add another example, Govou, who scored two times, played only one match of the french CFA (like third division or something).
And btw, who is the world champion ? they forgot how to play after one month ?

Anyway regarding that last match there was 3 player who deserve their title : Pirlo, Grosso and Buffon, the other are laughable, especially Inzaghi. To be reduce to act is a shame.

@Vendest
Of course it explains it. France may have had what - one, two, three players at most that played one match or less in league play for the European qualifiers, correct? As for Italy, NONE of them had played even one (exempting some Roma and Inter players who played for just the Supercoppa Italiana). There are no Italians in the English premier league, and for the Italians that play in the Spanish league - Cannavaro, Zambrotta, and Cassano - have not played. I think the most was a reporting to camp for a physical for Cannavaro, which is not exactly soccer experience.

France had the exact same problem when qualifying for the Euro 2000. Their first game against Iceland ended in a draw, after having a World Cup hangover. That isn't exactly an impressive start to qualifying for the Euros.

All that being said, I'm not saying at all that the French did not deserve the win, they most certainly did and played well. Within a year though, expect to be punished during the rematch.

But I am still stunned at how Cyprus managed to defeat Ireland by 5-2.

So much for low-scoring European soccer!

Looking forward to the game today.

But just saw in the news how terrible the stadium in solvakia is looking.
Its safty level is far under the UEFA standarts.
There were some UEFA guys there and were really desperate, but its still the only capable stadium in solvakia.
Its already over 70 years olds, all the chairs can be taken and thrown, and the only think that seperates the Viewers from the pitch is a 1m(!) high fence.
There are no security guards in the night,so anyone can come to stadium, place something like a weapon or a firework at the stadium and get it when hes through the ''security'' the next day.

Really excellent form, we are probably right now the best team in Europe.

Don't get too agitated as upsets like these happen to every team in the Euro qualifiers every now and then.

It does make Group A interesting though as Poland is five points ahead but three others (Portugal, Serbia, Finland) have 14 points each with an extra two games in hand. If any two of these teams wins their next two games they would be catapulted ahead of Poland with 20 points to 19 and still have the same number of games to play.

So essentially all that has happened is that Poland has squandered a great opportunity to assure a qualifying position. All the teams are capable of pulling off upsets so this group is far from over and will be fun to watch.

I would like to know what everyone thinks of England's chances as they seem like they are back to form but still risk not qualifying as Russia is improving its game and the Croats and Israelis are holding their own quite well.

I hope Portugal wins the group, they've become my faivorite european team. I saw the full 90 minutes against Belgium and it was a good match, Portugal has a great attacking team. The winning goal was amazing lol.

@Rzec That award I think probably goes to Spain or Russia lol. Poland aren't that bad though they had 19 points from 8 games, the Armenia match was a real opportunity to increase the gap.

Btw WTF is with teams like Armenia and Azerbaijan playing in Europe? Israel I understand due to political reasons. But the other two are asians, is it cuz their both white? lol

@ BrazilPride

I'm hoping for Portugal and Poland (my best mates Portuguese, it is a must lol), but hell I don't care where they come, but Poland has never made it to a Euro before, this has to happen sometime, and I hope it isn't at Euro 2012 haha

Armenia was part of the Soviet Union. Hence they are classified as European (most Southern of the caucuses) and is always been culturally a European type nation (or considered as such). Azerbaijan was also because it was part of the Soviet Union. I think they were askedwhere they would like to go...

The reason why Uzbekistan and others is due to Geography and the fact they wanted to join Asia.

Okay but Geographically its clearly Asia. Armenia I could forcefully accept into Uefa but Azerbaijan? Isn't the majority of its population of mongol descent? The fact that its muslim and so out of the European sphere also baffles me.

They are smart, now if they develop a half decent team they have a chance in the AFC lol.

Btw I'll be rooting for the Aussies this summer, you dudes gained my respect after the World cup. I personally think your better than the Koreans and Japanese.

After winning 3-0 against Israel England has now won 3-0 against Russia, Scotland won 1-0 against France and Wales won against Slovakia, just sad that Northern Ireland didn't win, Germany won against Romania 3-1. Croatia won their game, as did the Netherlands and many other teams.

I root against all british teams, why? Because their all a bunch of poofs who lack technical ability and are boring to watch. England have gotten better so mild props to them, I still think McClaren doesn't know what he's doing. They should hire Big Sam. Now teams like Scotland really do piss me off, can anyone actual claim that these guys have any skill? Most of them either play in the SPL which heavely regulates entrance of foreign players and in the Premier league their all benched. Their brand of football is far from "pretty". I mean its awful when teams just put 10 men behind the ball and call that "great defending". The scots had one shot on goal, a great shot no doubt. But these guys didn't deserve to win sh1t. I still think that Italy will win the group and the French will get 2nd place.

Thankfully Wales doesn't have a chance and N.Ireland have lost two games in a row to Latvia and Iceland lol. Unfortunately my irish brothers won't be qualifying either.

Anyone see Big Phill take a swing at the Serb defender? LOL

Anyway, Finland is still second in group A, with Poland first, while Portugal and Serbia are still behind with a game in hand (though even if they win they still need to win two in a row).

Thanks to the two draws Finland and Poland, Portugal and Serbia, we have stayed in the same place :P

Lets hope Poland doesn't **** this up in the last 4 games... I mean they lost to ****ing Armenia ffs... we'd be home sweet if they just didn't suck... Lucky Portugal only drew Armenia lol.

Since last year the European team that I've come to like the most is Portugal. Not only because Felipão, their coach is a hero in my eyes but their brand of football is great to watch. However recently they've been getting into these random draws with mediocre to crap teams. I mean Poland are a decent outfit, but Portual is superior to them in every area of the pitch. Now Portugal have a game in hand, with that they should pass Finland and be a single point from Poland. Having a superior goal difference could help.
