This Euro is going to be extremely exciting with every big European team other than England represented. Consequently we might see several highly interesting games:
Pot 1
Switzerland
Austria
Greece
Netherlands
Pot 2
Croatia
Italy
Sweden
Czechia
Pot 3
Germany
Romania
Portugal
Spain
Pot 4
France
Turkey
Russia
Poland
We might see a group consisting of the Netherlands, Italy, Germany and France!
I don't understand how are these pots arranged, can teams in the same pot be drawn in a Euro cup group? Is their any rankings within the pot?
One thing they should do is give an advantage to those who win a qualifying group. It gives greater of an incentive.

I think you misunderstood the system. From each pot a team will be drawn into one of the 4 groups. Consequently this means that no teams from the same pot will face each other during the first round games.
Brazil,
I don't remember the ranking system exactly, but it has to do with previous EURO qualifying performances IIRC. The hosts and the holders are seeded though.
I think the hosts, Austria and Switzerland, are the weakest teams. I also don't think their home advantage will count for much. That said, I'm a bit dissapointed the Netherlands is placed in pot 1, along those two teams and Greece, which isn't that strong either.
So, no easy win for the Netherlands no matter what the draw result. If that has to be the case, then give us indeed a group with Italy, Germany and France! Bring it on!
PS: The Orange boys really need a fixed formation (I'd say 4-4-2) and a couple of promising games with more or less the same line-up. Though we haven't played a good match for a year now, I still have confidence in some of our worldclass players.
Dude Greece accumulated the highest amount of point than any other team. Switzerland is a decent side, however Austria is absolute crap! Switzerland would have qualified but not the Austrian team.

Any team that qualifies for the finals is good, so is Greece. But I'd still rather play them then, say, Germany or Italy. Even though these two teams didn't gather that much points as the Greece. I don't care for the FIFA ranking system, or whatever. I look to the players they field, and doing so I rate Greece among the weaker teams.
I agree Switzerland is a decent team as well, but I don't see them win a game easily. Austria is by far the weakest side. I've heard of a petition to withdraw the Austrian team from the EC!
Yeah I saw this news report on Eurosport about a petition to kick Austria out of the championships on the basis that they'll embarrass the nation lol. So far they've got 15,000 signitures and want over a million.
But look how Switzerland qualified for the World cup an 2006 and they performed quite well in the tournament itself. I think they'll qualify for the knock out stages. Unlike Austria.

among the weaker teams the european champions?
the portugese before the final said that they want Greece in the final for proving that the result of the first game was bases on luck.
You've got to admit that Greece winning the last title was a big surprise to anyone. And you've also got to admit that it it's very unlikely it will ever happen again! But although I consider Greece among the weaker teams, I hope you'll perform nice. Good luck!

Hehe, but it was a blast as a neutral. After Germany was out playing absolutely horrid football, Greece was actually my favourite team due to them being coached by Otto Rehhagel

Group A:
Switzerland
Czech Republic
Portugal
Turkey
Portugal and Switzerland
Group B:
Austria
Croatia
Germany
Poland
This one is tough, Germany for sure and its a toss up between Croatia and Poland. I'll go for Croatia
Group C:
Holland
Italy
Romania
France
Italy and France
Group D:
Greece
Sweden
Spain
Russia
Spain and Greece

Czech Republic, Portugal, Germany, Croatia, Italy, France, Spain and Greece will advance.

I can see Poland going through, Croatia is overrated... they couldn't beat Australia LOL.
You could see this was a little bit too convenient lol, all the 4's 3's and 2's came out at the right time haha
My picks are Czech Republic and Portugal, Germany and Poland, Italy and the Dutch, Spain and Sweden.

You guys are forgetting that Switzerland are one of the hosts, I think they'll edge Czech Republic.
@Rzec I know, I've always said that Croatia was overrated but are they better than Poland?

Tough group for the Dutch, but somehow I think it's a shame Germany isn't in our group as well. That would have been great. My confidence in our coach is low, so unless he doesn't get things on track we'll be out. All depends on the preperation period. If suddenly we'll be able to perform as a Dutch team should, I rate us higher than the French and Rumanians.
Poland is better then Croatia. We are a **** team overall (by **** I mean decent), we have our moments, but we are better then those toolbots. Croatia is around Serbia's quality IMO and Serbia couldn't beat us.
The thing is Poland is known to just turn to **** in tournaments, highlighted since Japorea.
@ Reaver
Croatia is nothing like Germany. Germany is consistently the best team in Europe even the world, they will always make at least the semi's of major tournaments.
Others rely more on individual class
Poland has no star players to rely on, most goals are scored from team play on the Polish side.
Also, the Poldolski Klose (both Poles, damn you) duo is what Germany relies on. If that can be shut down, Germany can be beaten, problem is actually shutting them down.

While we have a good attack, our main threat comes from the midfield (our 4 starting players there just happen to be all injured at the moment) and their ability to initiate attacks.
So you would have Klose and Podolski supported by Ballack, Schweinsteiger, Schneider and Frings.
"Croatia is not overrated. Us and them are probably the sides with the best teamplay out there. Others rely more on individual class."
I disagree big time and thats kinda of an exagerration. Croatia is a very efficient and professional team, where they get the job done without playing great football. In the whole campaign they only had one hiccup and that was losing to Macedonia (didn't matter they still qualified because Israel beat Russia). They work hard and are very consistent.
"Poland is better then Croatia. We are a **** team overall (by **** I mean decent), we have our moments, but we are better then those toolbots. Croatia is around Serbia's quality IMO and Serbia couldn't beat us."
Nah man, Croatia are better than Serbia the serbs got raped in the world cup ( I think finished last) and they didn't even finish past Finland. lol Poland are a decent team, but their group wasn't that great, I mean Portugal was the only good team and they played very poorly. All the fooking draws which pissed me off.
I really don't know who to root for in the Eurocup, Portugal is my faivorite team but I also like Spain and Poland. Has either of these countries ever won a major tournament?

So? How are they overrated? A nation of 4.5 million that has managed to consistently field a competitive team. Beating the underdogs in less fancy games during the qualifying is a mark of a top team and shows that they have the concentration and dedication necessary to focus their minds on the task. Many supposedly big nations often trip over those "lesser" nations.
Croatia's weakness is foremost its defense. Simunic, Kovac and Simic are not that young and not that fast. Quick strikers and dribblers could overcome them.
First off they did not have a difficult group, they could not beat Russia once who have an awful defence. Like I said their efficient in going out against lesser oposition and not messing up. Kranjcar and Eduardo are good players but they hardly warrant a "great" team. Their decent, nothing more nothing less.

So has Serbia, except they haven't had lucky runs or lucky draws like Croatia has. Croatia is overrated because they will beat a team like England every other qaulifier, then are expressed as the next bifg thing. Their 1998 team was good, but this team is not the same team of 1998.
Has either of these countries ever won a major tournament?
Spain won the Euro in 1964.
Poland has gone on to win 3rd place in the World cup twice, once against France once against Brazil. Poland should of won the 1974 world cup, but the Germans rufused to postpone their match on a field that literally was overflowing with water. They ended up wining 1 - 0 when Poland dominated the match, Poland played strongly on the wings, very hard running game, but the water negated that and the Germans simply stuck 7 men in the back and waited (basically they pulled a Greece Euro 2004).
Ever since Poland has not been able to beat Germany once (Poland has never beaten Germany). It is now a curse, or our team just sucks pretty bad LOL
Nah I love the Germans, they are a team focused bunch. THey basiclaly win games by sticking together, the way it should be.

"First off they did not have a difficult group, they could not beat Russia once who have an awful defence."
Neither could England away.
" Like I said their efficient in going out against lesser oposition and not messing up. Kranjcar and Eduardo are good players but they hardly warrant a "great" team. Their decent, nothing more nothing less.""
We have to agrre to disagree then. At the moment I see them as a dark horse for the title. IMO they are among the top 5 teams in Europe currently together with Italy, Germany, France and the Czechs.
"So has Serbia, except they haven't had lucky runs or lucky draws like Croatia has."
Serbia twice as large. The former Yugoslavia and now the successor states have always been great at team sports considering their size. Football, handball, basketball etc.
"Croatia is overrated because they will beat a team like England every other qaulifier, then are expressed as the next bifg thing. Their 1998 team was good, but this team is not the same team of 1998."
You are not doing them justice. Even when they are crap, they still manage to qualify, like in 2002. Now they have a well balanced squad that is used to play together. They are physically strong and have technically gifted players upfront. Coupled with their ability to focus I see them as joint favourites in our group. Winning against them in the EC would be great, but I would also take a draw. I rate them higher than Poland and Austria in any case.

I am not that old to remember that, but back then we had a team of the century with Müller, Beckenbauer, Netzer, Maier etc. That cup in 1974 saw quite a few great teams, Germany, Poland and the Netherlands most prominently.
"Nah I love the Germans, they are a team focused bunch. THey basiclaly win games by sticking together, the way it should be."
True, though I wish we would have a real superstar once again. Somebody who can be classed as undisputable best on his position like Kahn during his prime.

You can rate them however you want, they are hardly better then Poland. Poland just doesn't achieve anything in tournaments, indisputable fact, Poland is a good team but has a horrible run in tournaments... almost like Spain except Spain don't suck as bad.
I can see Poland beating Croatia in a gruelling game, beating Austria easily and Germany beating or best case scenario a draw. I could end up eating my words knowing how crap Poland can be, but I think we can go places... need to prove something before Euro 2012.

Nor am I, but I watch the game and it was rather bad. The field was horrible. Poland had the best team in 1974, it was the team that played the best together, but along side them was the Golden team of the Netherlands and the Golden team from Germany... It was going to be hard but had we beaten Germany, Poland would be looking back at one World Cup right now.
True, though I wish we would have a real superstar once again. Somebody who can be classed as undisputable best on his position like Kahn during his prime.
I suppose you could count Ballack, but he isn't the best in his position. Germany always gets either charmed midfielders or Goal keepers...

I never saw the whole game, but yes, the weather was horrid, making it hard to play normal football.
"I suppose you could count Ballack, but he isn't the best in his position. Germany always gets either charmed midfielders or Goal keepers..."
Well, we obviously have some world class players, like Klose, Ballack and Lahm, but we didn't have somebody who might be considered for the best player of the year since Kahn in his prime. For field players it goes back even more to Matthias Sammer.
"Well we know how crap England are. But at Wembly they raped Russia and exposed how bad their defence really was."
Yes, but England gets touted as world class and will be hailed as such again after they win a few games in a row. If you consider international standing versus actual results Croatia blows England and Spain out of the water in the recent years.
"Better than Spain and Portugal? No way! Neither had impressive qualifying rounds but they still have better teams."
Portugal and Spain are both very erratic. They can impress, but afterwards they fall in a slump. Over the course of say 10 games, I believe Croatia to be superiour, they are more consistent in any case.
I also remember some very gruesome games of the German team against Croatia, where we got beaten up badly. ( wasnt it with Völler 2005 ?) But that was with another team and before the "reshape" of the German National Team.

"Yes, but England gets touted as world class and will be hailed as such again after they win a few games in a row. If you consider international standing versus actual results Croatia blows England and Spain out of the water in the recent years."
The only people who touted England being world class were the English pundits themselves. I can't remember the last time that I liked an English, their style of playing was never exciting in my eyes. Their the most overrated footballing "power". Again having a mediocre qualifying round doesn't mean a whole lot as long as you qualify. In the 2002 World cup campaign we finished 3rd. In the 2006 qualifying we finished 1st ahead of Argentina, look how that helped us.

No way, lets just compare squads and style of play here. Both teams are vastly superior, all I will say is that we'll have to wait and see. But Croatia is not a world class team. I rather play them than Paraguay.

France is in a good group. The harder the group the better is the performance of the French team. I reckon the Netherland will be knocked out. I don't see that team beating France.
France, Italy, Germany and Spain the usual Euro big guns.

The Normans practiced a form of strict primogeniture. The younger siblings were trained at war and then were left to fend for themselves. This created a surplus of landless lords that made the Normans natural colonialists and conquerors.
Eric, when Holland plays France you ought to be cheering us on. It will be the white man vs. the black man, and you are white are you not? Moreover, the Dutch and the French in the northeast of France (Flandres?) are very similar ethnically, being both derived mainly from the Frisians. Certainly, the Dutch and the French are more similar to each other than either is to the players on the French football team. So you ought to be cheering us on.

Group C is a tough group, but terms like these always pop up just after a draw. If you look beyond the big names, then Italy didn't impress me much during their qualification matches, then France is just a shadow of their great team of '98, and the Dutch lack a solid defense and a fixed system. On the other hand, Rumania is stronger than most people think.
It's hard to predict the two teams that will go through. I think, as is often the case in modern football, that the form of the day will be decisive. One thing is sure, it will be interesting matches.
BTW: Spain a big gun in European football? Give me a break! Can you mention me one time that the Spanish team performed well on tournament? I can't.

First of all, let's keep racism out of football.
I couldn't agree more! We can start by getting rid of all turd world macacas from European football. Once you get rid of those macacas, racism in football will drop dramatically.
