A call for the implementation of the European Parliament resolution of 18 June 1987.
A meeting with the leaders of French political parties, Sunday February 1. 2004 at 3.30 pm- Palais des Congr?s, porte Maillot.
The French-Armenian association "Comit? de d?fense de la Cause Arm?nienne" (CDCA) has called a meeting to oppose Turkey's bid to join the European Union. The meeting will take place on February 1st in Paris.
According to documents circulated in connection with the meeting, « Turkey's continued flouting of the principles and requirements of the European Parliament's resolution of June 18, 1987 must be considered an insuperable obstacle to its joining the European Union."
This text, as well as an online petition, list the organization's demands, which, in addition to the evacuation of Cypriot territory and a range of human, minority and religious rights concerns, includes:
`- the recognition of the crime of genocide, committed against the Armenian population of the Ottoman Empire and of its consequences;
- the acceptance of a political solution to the Armenian question in order to put an end to Turkey's impunity;
- lifting of the blockade maintained since 1991 against Armenia.'
The association invites interested persons to submit their questions to the different representatives of political parties, who will be present at the conference.
The CDCA is the French branch of the `Euro-Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy' (EAFJD). Both are connected to the political party ARF (Armenian Revolutionary Federation, social-democratic).
