A town doesn't have to be in your state to be considered like a part of your heritage.
It's truth that Subotica (Szabadka) is mainly a hungarian town by culture and history, no problem to admit that as a serbian.

Kaliningrad (Koenigsberg) is a german town but in Russia.
Lvov a polish but in Ukraine.
Sent Andreja (Szetendre) a serbian but in Hungary.
Pula ( Pola) an italian but in Croatia.
Strasbourg a german but in France……….etc, etc
