My answer to both questions is that we are not supposed to know. That is why John 1 was written ambiguously the way it was written. And that is why some verses seem to say Jesus preexisted, while other verses seem to say he did not preexist. The reason is we can't understand those verses, so we would not be proud thinking we know everything about Jesus. So if you think you know the answers to those questions, when you are resurrected, you will repent of that pride, and Jesus will explain those difficult verses to you and to all of us. And all the difficult verses.
